  1. I really think it depends on how the rest of the season unfolds. After all, Francona was fired after a 90 win season and a fantastic overall record.
  2. As you know, there are a number of us who feel the team's record is the bottom line for the manager. Then of course there's that old adage about not being able to fire 25 players. My opinion for some time has been that Farrell's fate should rest on the team's final results this year.
  3. And what are the possible explanations for other offenses getting better this year? -An influx of good young hitters? -Improvements in hitting approach? -Decline in quality of pitching? -Juiced ball?
  4. Yes, there are many problems and many worries for this team right now.
  5. Yeah he's not hard to spot is he. He gives himself away immediately with his screen name. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  6. 2011 also tells us that Henry isn't a paragon of patience.
  7. Except the last place finishes may have been blamed on the outgoing GM.
  8. If we blow the division he's toast. If he Grady's us out of the playoffs he's toast.
  9. Yes, we need all the help we can get. Go Price.
  10. A 2 game lead is dogsquat, of course. It was a 5 game lead 3 days ago. It just feels like this team has a lot of serious problems right now. The only cure is winning games.
  11. Another grim little stat: the Sox have gone 13 games in a row without scoring in the first inning.
  12. A major shout out to Stacy Lewis. Before this week's LPGA event she announced she would donate her entire winnings from the tournament to the Harvey relief effort. Then she goes out and wins the tournament, her first win in several years, and she's donating $195,000.
  13. I would release Chris Young and give Brentz a shot. Young's performance against lefties this year is a sick joke. 184/297/264 with 1 HR and 4 RBI - unbelievable.
  14. Yeah, I can't defend Porcello any more. He's hurting us this year, plain and simple.
  15. Another pile of LOBsters tonight.
  16. Pedro didn't hit Zimmer.
  17. That's one way to look at it. Another way, unfortunately, is that we are on pace to score 110 runs fewer than last year, while the average MLB team is on pace to score 29 more runs than last year.
  18. Yes, I saw that and commented on it in the Sanchez thread. I wasn't expecting anything to happen today on the holiday.
  19. It's not so much taking strike one down the middle that bothers me, it's taking strike three down the middle.
  20. Swihart has had a lot of setbacks. However, it must be said, there is nothing in his resume to suggest he will ever be an impact bat. His stats actually look a lot like Brock Holt's.
  21. We really didn't need a link to any stats to know this. Our friend bosoxmal is probably the only Sox fan in the world who would think of Swihart as a possible DH.
  22. I agree with others who have suggested that taking the first pitch is part of the team's general philosophy of working the count and driving up pitch counts. This year that philosophy doesn't seem to be paying off. I suspect there has been some discussion about getting a little more aggressive lately but now it seems like a lot of our hitters are confused - 'in between'.
  23. Well, Sanchez is going to miss the Baltimore series at least.
  24. And obviously Sanchez will be playing tonight in a key game against Baltimore as well. I'm a little surprised the media has said so little about this whole fishy deal.
