    That's correct. He does get charged with the runs, of course. It's one more reason why ERA isn't totally reliable. Just think if the error that was charged was a bad call by the scorer, that it should have been a hit. That would mean Cashner was let off the hook for what should have been 7 more earned runs.

    Easy. In the 4th inning of the game Cashner gave up the 8 runs. Only 1 was earned because there was an error with 2 outs and 7 of the runs scored after the error. If the error hadn't been made he would only have given up the 1 run. I would almost bet one of the game announcers used the phrase 'opened up the floodgates' LOL

    I think what moon is saying is that if Price and Porcello had lived up to what we were hoping for this year, Pom would be a great #4. But because those two have failed Pom is our #2.

    LOL I don't remember anything about statheads and injury prone. I remember all the others though.

    If you were going to be thorough about this you would have to analyze Stanton's injury history a bit. I know some of the missed games came from getting hit in the head with a pitch.

    Can't seem to find that data. Most of our bonehead plays this year have been on the basepaths. I'm just trying to address your question about the unearned runs. Generally speaking unearned runs will have a pretty high correlation to errors, but there will be some randomness. Most errors lead to no unearned runs. But one error can lead to 5 unearned runs.

    We may be a top 3 defense, but we've allowed the 5th most errors.

    Not necessarily weird, since unearned runs are only based on errors, which are now recognized as only one component of defense.

    Yes and no. Stanton's AAV is 25 million. So it might mean we wouldn't be able to extend Mookie. But maybe Mookie wants to go to free agency anyway. I don't think a trade for Stanton is a realistic possibility, it's just message board fodder. I can't see the Marlins trading him to us unless they get Benintendi or Devers back. A straight salary dump by the Marlins makes no sense. If they're in that bad of a shape the franchise is doomed anyway.

    Because Wins Above Replacement is a whole different concept. It tries to measure actual performance eliminating luck factors. It's actually Runs Above Replacement, converted to Wins to make it a little easier to compare players.

    Hmm...I have checked, double-checked, and triple-checked, and I still have 749 minus 620 coming out to 129.

    1) Agreed about the Shaw-Thornburg trade. 2) I guess you mean because Smith has been injured. If he was healthy it was a clear win. And Miley has been horrible. 3) They were planning on getting Price to bolster the rotation so why not get the closer first. Doesn't really matter what order you do things in.

    You don't really deserve to be ahead by 15 games with a run differential of about 130.
