He blew up the farm and signed Price because Benny left him with a rotation headed by Rick Porcello with a 4.92 ERA, and Clay Buchholz, and a bullpen with one good pitcher, Koji, who only pitched 40 innings in 2015. Thanks Ben!

Even a team with a $200 million payroll can't have a pile of guys making $20 million. The math just don't work.

It's strange, the Sox can't seem to develop young pitchers, but they have resurrected a couple of older pitchers recently with Rich Hill and now Fister.

Santana and Cain are 2 of the top free agents though. Fister just doesn't seem to belong on the same kind of list. For me it's a quibble more than anything, though.

No, that was a terrible contract, I'm not disputing that. But most GM's of franchises with money have inked terrible contracts. It's not the same as trading significant talent and taking on the back end of such a contract at the same time.

Yes, if Fister is #5 on your list of FA bargains, you should probably just end the list at 4. He's definitely still a dumpster dive.

Duda's not all that good, I think we all realize that. But he's an .800+ OPS guy against RH pitching, and if he comes at the right price, a first base platoon with him and Hanley wouldn't be the worst thing. Also, as moon has said, this could help keep Hanley from hitting the vesting option, which would relieve us of 22 million payroll for 2019.
