  1. JBJ has all the tools to be one of the best outfielders in the game IMO. He might benefit from using his judgment a little better. One thing I noticed last year following the game threads was a surprising number of comments about him making ill-advised throws, and in fact he did get a minus rating for throwing for 2017.
  2. Minor league deal? He's got a little more upside than Kyle Kendrick if healthy.
  3. With all the stats available to us now, someone who has never watched a game can do as good a job handing out the awards and honors as anyone.
  4. JBJ is one of those players who is tough to project because of his wild inconsistency with the bat. In 2015 (extrapolated) and 2016 he was a 5 WAR player - All-Star caliber. In 2017 he was a 2.5 WAR player - just above average. What will he be in 2018? No one has a clue, really.
  5. Oh I agree. But we might still be able to grab a Wild Card spot.
  6. Yes, it might be just about time for someone to give Dave Dolittle a nudge and remind him there's an offseason goin' on.
  7. I'm sayin' it! Who's with me? I know Slasher is. Maybe Kimmi as well. I think Clay is just about ready to reach his potential.
  8. Where I come from, 93 is 2 more than 91.
  9. Dare I say it? Clay Buchholz as a depth option?
  10. Price missed most of the 2017 season and we still won 93 games. If he doesn't rebound it would hurt for sure, but there are always X factors no one can foresee.
  11. It is a bit ominous. But if Martinez can stay healthy, with the team's help in how they play him, that would give him a big edge over Hanley who has been dogged by injuries with us.
  12. Better off in the first 5 years with the latter. The only positive about the former is that the deals were shorter.
  13. The 2017 Kimbrel is not an easy guy to replace, I would agree.
  14. What else is new?
  15. Sorry, my problem is I read too many posts.
  16. Maybe a cross-section of all those people. It was managers who awarded a Gold Glove to Rafael Palmeiro in 1999 when he only played 28 games in the field. Aren't you a believer that managers are a bunch of morons?
  17. You really don't believe Mookie is anything special? He was 2nd and 6th in MVP voting the last 2 years. And that's one of the awards where the results actually mean something, I think. I think he's a pretty special talent.
  18. Official title doesn't matter, of course. All that matters is who is the de facto decision-maker.
  19. There's more stuff coming, and I strongly expect that to include J D Martinez. What's a little scary is that we're already projected at 207 million for tax purposes without having done anything!
  20. Pablo was a horrible move, although none of us in our wildest nightmares imagined exactly how horrible it would be. If we had just signed Pablo or Hanley, I think it would fall under the forgivable category. But signing them both, at a combined AAV of 41 million, was unforgivable.
  21. It's not a screwy equation, but it does reflect the fact that so much money has been flushed down the drain on free agent signings like Sandoval. The numbers are real, but a little sick at the same time.
  22. With limited exceptions, like signing Manny Ramirez.
  23. Yeah, true, if we release him some other team can pick him up for minimum wage...it'd probably be an AL East team, and we'd be paying Hanley to hit against us about 75 times this year!
  24. Speier says if Hanley is released the Sox are off the hook for the option.
  25. I don't hate the Moreland move, but I can't get overly excited about bringing back a guy with a 0.9 fWAR.
