  1. Well, one of the things we heard this offseason was that a lot of the crappy teams weren't interested in getting better, that they would rather tank completely. So we may see some really big spreads in W-L records this year.
  2. It's not a must win but it does feel like kind of a big game for Price. If he doesn't bounce back from the last one the haters will be out in full force.
  3. Not even domes are safe in this kind of epically s***** weather. The Jays had to postpone tonight's game because ice was falling from the roof in the Rogers Centre.
  4. That's what I remember too.
  5. IIRC, the stories at the time were that a) HRam could have gotten more; the Giants were willing to match our offer but Pablo preferred Boston.
  6. Do we really get any reliable info on who's bidding against who?
  7. Big difference from last year's incident though. This year they did it right. Last year they didn't do it right at all.
  8. Not that there's necessarily any logic to the pricing in the free agent market.
  9. In 15 games we've only had 2 bad starts by our rotation, 1 by E-Rod and 1 by Price.
  10. Possibly, yes. I'm not sure he's exactly fat though. He's definitely bigger.
  11. Hembree's one of those guys who's about halfway between good and mediocre. He had a 3.45 ERA in a Red Sox uniform coming into today.
  12. Hembree mows 'em down. Baseball is a funny game.
  13. LOL not quite what he was saying. The catch will affect his stats for RF. But I have to admit when it comes to a guy like JBJ the eye test sometimes looks better than the advanced stats...
  14. Well, there are some that think you can have your cake and eat it too, type of thing...
  15. a) If Holt gets back up to speed why would his defense be significantly worse than it was in 14-15? He didn't have a knee injury, he had concussion/vertigo. The opinions of Dombrowski, Cora et al will always matter to me about 200% than anyone here. They've got infinitely more info than we do.
  16. You can keep saying this as much as you want. The advanced metrics say he somehow mustered back to back 2 fWAR seasons playing about 2/3 of the time. So there's that.
  17. I would expect nothing less - you Mainers are so down to earth.
  18. Swihart may turn out to be a much better player than Holt, no question. I like him too. It's a great thing to have a strong bench. I'm old enough to still bemoan what an awful bench we had in 1978.
  19. harmony is by no means a troll in my books. But it's clear that he thinks us Sox fans are generally a bunch of biased blind homers and he likes to try to show us the error of our ways...
  20. LOL The save is one of the stupidest stats in sports. Walden deserves something for covering 3 innings though. A merit badge of some sort!
  21. It's a concern of course, and you know the team has talked about it a lot and calculated all the permutations and combinations. They've got oodles of analytics people and bean-counters on the payroll. Looks like they've decided it's all secondary to going for a flag. I applaud that decision.
  22. I support any Red Sox player as long as the front office continues to support them. They know a lot more than I do.
  23. If the forecast is accurate they may not be able to play Sunday or Monday. Freezing rain followed by rain and then torrential rain on Marathon Day from the looks of it.
  24. LOL double punk = double plunk.
