  1. Hope against the Yanks, of course.
  2. But if he was gassed how did he strike out Lowrie? Managers will be making 'mistakes' like this as long as there is baseball. Sometimes it's just rolling the dice.
  3. Not me, but yes.
  4. Correct. This is what Cora said too - the fact that he looked good striking out Lowrie is what persuaded him to let Price face Davis.
  5. Cora's basically following the template Houston used last year. Peter Abraham's story on yesterday's game is a good one. He makes it pretty clear that like many fans he's going WTF about Betts, Hanley & Nunez remaining on the bench the whole game, but then he explains what Cora's trying to do.
  6. LOL the post you replied to over and over was a sarcastic one and part of a running argument. You can't just drop in here once in a while and start going off on other posters when you don't even know what they're saying.
  7. I'm pretty sure it wasn't about trying to get Price a W when it's a 1-1 game and the team's bats have gone cold. You could just as easily say he was increasing the chances of Price getting an L.
  8. It's obviously Cora's philosophy. We're gonna have to get used to it I guess.
  9. moon meant it would have been better than it was last year.
  10. I just love stuff that's weird and quirky, I can't help it...and baseball is full of such things.
  11. The error call on Leon's popup was also dicey. All the more reason I find no-hitters can be wonky affairs. What can't be argued is that the guy pitched a great game.
  12. Just good old buzzard luck. The principle of randomness says this will correct itself.
  13. One of the all-time classic no-hitters was the one tossed by Edwin Jackson for Arizona in 2010. Jackson gave up 8 walks in the game and had to throw 149 pitches. There was plenty of talk that maybe they shouldn't have let him throw so many pitches in spite of having a no-hitter going. Concerns about the number of pitches proved to be justified. In his next 5 starts, Jackson went 1-4 with a 7.24 ERA. Then Arizona traded him to the White Sox at the July 31 deadline.
  14. No-hitters are one of the most overrated events in sports - with one qualifier. Multiple no-hit games are impressive. Nolan Ryan had 7 of them, Koufax had 4. That's impressive. But one-off no-hitters don't mean much. Philip Humber pitched one of the 23 perfect games in MLB history back in 2012, in his second start of the season. Nice. Unfortunately in his next start he gave up 9 runs in 5 innings. He went on to finish the season with a 6.44 ERA. In 2013 he went 0-8 with a 7.90 ERA and that was it for him. The history of no-hitters by Red Sox pitchers says a lot: Clemens never had one. Pedro never had one. But Hideo Nomo had one. In 1992 Matt Young almost had one, throwing an 8-inning complete game giving up no hits, but 7 walks and a run and losing 1-0. (As hardcore Sox fans know, Derek Lowe, Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester each had one, and Varitek caught them all, plus the one by Nomo.) I'm just having fun with this, OK...
  15. No-hitters are one of the most overrated events in sports BTW I'll say more about that in the Catch-all thread...
  16. How is it 'Manaea of all people' LOL He's young and he'd been putting up great numbers coming into this game.
  17. This is the one I've always remembered. What a phenomenal play.
  18. Stay humble, stay hungry, and stay in the moment. One game at a time, one inning at a time. The mantras of the truly focused team.
  19. I honestly don't watch many games start to finish anymore. I did watch the first game of the Angels series. But when the Red Sox are playing, I am usually following the game one way or the other.
  20. Bold prediction. Did you think that before the season?
  21. On the lighter side of weather... Mark Clear
  22. As poster Carbo-Diem said, in an expression I really like: Stay humble and stay hungry.
  23. Good question - I'd narrow it to Bradley and Bogaerts, but then I'd have to know the approx. price tags to decide.
  24. JBJ's price does depend a lot on his offensive numbers. If he gets back to being an .800 OPS guy, he becomes very expensive indeed.
  25. I hear you. The question is how can they pay Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley, Sale, Price, Porcello, and then Benintendi etcetera...
