    Of course, if JBJ wasn't flailing most of the season Cora wouldn't have to think about whether to start him against a tough lefty or not. You can't just let JBJ off the hook for his situation.

    The 11-11 isn't a big deal in itself. Porcello looking bad 2 starts in a row is more of a concern.

    Strained back does indeed sound like a classic phantom DL injury. But as noted that doesn't make sense in this case.

    When that pitch is thrown exactly the way the pitcher wants to throw it, right? I mean, if Hitter X simply couldn't hit a slider, period, no matter if it was a great one or a lousy one, pitchers would throw him nothing but sliders and he'd strike out every time.

    I have to laugh when I hear a major league player can't hit breaking pitches. If it was true they wouldn't have made it this far.

    Funny how you never show up after the Sox bullpen has a great game. Also funny that you haven't said anything about Kelly, one of your Three Stooges, now having a 2.33 ERA and a WHIP of .93.

    Yeah, I'm totally with you on this one dgale. I am perfectly comfortable with letting Alex Cora figure out the daily lineup card. I just assume he knows what he's doing and there are plenty of other things to quibble about LOL

    Look man, you do realize that Ted Williams was the last player to hit .400 - in 1941? In the last 76 years no one else has done it. .338 is a spectacular average for Major League Baseball.

    Yeah, I was just a little surprised by how much he focused on Altuve's late-and-close numbers and his suggestion that it doesn't really matter if luck and randomness enters into it.

    Did you read James's actual comments though? Some of them were a little surprising. He was highly critical of choosing the MVP based on WAR alone and not looking at the situational hitting stats. He said that Altuve should have easily won the MVP over Judge because Altuve's numbers in high-leverage situations were so much better, and that he therefore contributed more directly to wins. James also scoffed at the value of Pythagorean record and suggested that the difference between the Yankees Pythagorean record and their actual record demonstrated that they were not good in close games-seemingly discounting the randomness aspect. That's the way I read it, anyway.

    True. By the same token, Hanley's 355 OBP is exactly 2 points lower than Bogey's. And as I said Benintendi's OBP was 358 as recently as May 1. Small samples, really. But I'm sure that if Beni continues to struggle he'll get moved.
