  1. The use of shifts has become quite a bit more prevalent, one might say.
  2. If everyone else on the team was hitting over .300, and JBJ was hitting .175, there would still be piles of posts about what to do with JBJ.
  3. Buck's Bastards have been pretty hard on us in recent years.
  4. What is relevant, though, is that he was in the starting lineup the last 4 games. The team obviously hasn't given up on him getting batter with the bat.
  5. I don't see how a guy his age without getting injured lost bat speed. It's somewhere between his mechanics and his mind IMO
  6. Here's another one from me: You can pitch 5.2 shutout innings and not get a QS. But if you were able to get one more out, even if you gave up 2 or 3 runs in the process, you'd get a QS. As with many stats there's an arbitrary nature to it...
  7. Didi Gregorius is 1 for his last 42 or something like that.
  8. You have to speak for yourself on this, really. I have learned to be a little skeptical about all these metrics, which doesn't mean I don't also see value in them and find them interesting. Nobody is forcing anybody to believe anything they don't want to believe, IMO
  9. But nobody is actually saying 'WAR must be correct' that I know of.
  10. There's nothing wrong with approaching all the numbers with some skepticism and wanting to dig into them a little further to see what's really going on. When it comes to WAR, to use another old adage, "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater".
  11. Here's a scary thought - what would Natick's posts look like if they did what he suggested and Swihart couldn't get above the Mendoza line either?
  12. I see it referred to as a statistic in some places, a calculation in others. It's kind of splitting hairs to say it isn't a stat, really.
  13. Leon is 7 for his last 17. You'll be waving the pom-poms for him before you know it.
  14. That was a good crop, you're right.
  15. ERod vs. Hess Let's win 75% of the games in this series please.
  16. Just referring to the 2 most popular places to get the WAR numbers from - FanGraphs and Baseball-Reference.
  17. Porcello vs. Bundy Beat up on Bundy and win going away please.
  18. You're being silly. Vazquez threw out 21 out of 50 who tried to steal on him last year.
  19. We could go on and on about Ben, and we probably will. He did some very good things but the team also made some terrible blunders in his tenure. Whether they were all his blunders or not we'll never know. Until Larry Lucchino's deathbed confessions, perhaps.
  20. I got you except for the last sentence. How many players graduate from the minors to the majors each year on average, would you say?
  21. Late starts to the season can be killers for pitchers. Alex Cobb was absolutely horrific his first few starts. Pomeranz might not be 100% physically, though. One more start like last night and he'll be sent to the DL, I expect.
