  1. Sale vs. Faria Can we please score some runs in this God-forsaken dump?
  2. We already have Moreland to step in for Hanley.
  3. I didn't say anything about appreciating or not appreciating. All I'm saying is you can ignore whatever you want to ignore.
  4. My basic attitude is that I think the team knows what they're doing more so than a bunch of fans jabbering on a message board - no matter how smart some of us may be.
  5. Nobody's forcing anybody to buy into any stats, be they old ones or new ones. You can watch the games and ignore stats to your heart's content. Well, that's not quite true. If you're watching games on TV you're going to get assaulted with the minutiae. That's the one thing I object to. It's too bad you didn't have the option of filtering out the information you aren't interested in.
  6. Well, I would speculate they might be keeping Swihart primarily as injury insurance. And having him on the 25 man roster hasn't really hurt anything yet. It's not like there's someone in Pawtucket who could be helping us. It's a sour situation for him personally, but I don't really see any detriment to the Red Sox because he's stuck on the bench.
  7. Wrong. For starters, there are no 'traditional stats' for defense, other than errors and fielding %, or base running, other than base stealing #s. So your post is good for nothing. And please stop using that song. It might have been funny the first 500 times...
  8. Well, the only time I'm a Colon fan is when he's pitching against the Yanks...so tonight.
  9. Bradley singled off an Aroldis Chapman 97.2 MPH fastball back on April 11. I refuse to believe his bat speed has declined so much since then that he can no longer catch up to a 92 MPH fastball. It's got to be mechanics, timing. Not loss of bat speed.
  10. The use of shifts has become quite a bit more prevalent, one might say.
  11. If everyone else on the team was hitting over .300, and JBJ was hitting .175, there would still be piles of posts about what to do with JBJ.
  12. Buck's Bastards have been pretty hard on us in recent years.
  13. What is relevant, though, is that he was in the starting lineup the last 4 games. The team obviously hasn't given up on him getting batter with the bat.
  14. I don't see how a guy his age without getting injured lost bat speed. It's somewhere between his mechanics and his mind IMO
  15. Here's another one from me: You can pitch 5.2 shutout innings and not get a QS. But if you were able to get one more out, even if you gave up 2 or 3 runs in the process, you'd get a QS. As with many stats there's an arbitrary nature to it...
  16. Didi Gregorius is 1 for his last 42 or something like that.
  17. You have to speak for yourself on this, really. I have learned to be a little skeptical about all these metrics, which doesn't mean I don't also see value in them and find them interesting. Nobody is forcing anybody to believe anything they don't want to believe, IMO
  18. But nobody is actually saying 'WAR must be correct' that I know of.
  19. There's nothing wrong with approaching all the numbers with some skepticism and wanting to dig into them a little further to see what's really going on. When it comes to WAR, to use another old adage, "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater".
  20. Here's a scary thought - what would Natick's posts look like if they did what he suggested and Swihart couldn't get above the Mendoza line either?
  21. I see it referred to as a statistic in some places, a calculation in others. It's kind of splitting hairs to say it isn't a stat, really.
