  1. Leon is 7 for his last 17. You'll be waving the pom-poms for him before you know it.
  2. That was a good crop, you're right.
  3. ERod vs. Hess Let's win 75% of the games in this series please.
  4. Just referring to the 2 most popular places to get the WAR numbers from - FanGraphs and Baseball-Reference.
  5. Porcello vs. Bundy Beat up on Bundy and win going away please.
  6. You're being silly. Vazquez threw out 21 out of 50 who tried to steal on him last year.
  7. We could go on and on about Ben, and we probably will. He did some very good things but the team also made some terrible blunders in his tenure. Whether they were all his blunders or not we'll never know. Until Larry Lucchino's deathbed confessions, perhaps.
  8. I got you except for the last sentence. How many players graduate from the minors to the majors each year on average, would you say?
  9. Late starts to the season can be killers for pitchers. Alex Cobb was absolutely horrific his first few starts. Pomeranz might not be 100% physically, though. One more start like last night and he'll be sent to the DL, I expect.
  10. I don't think the state of catching is any worse than it's ever been. Good hitting, good defense catchers have always been a rare species.
  11. 'Quality start' is just a made-up stat, of course.
  12. OK, let's say they should have given Vaz a couple more weeks in AAA in 2016. What should they have done with Swihart after those couple more weeks?
  13. Sale's last start wasn't a bad one. 2 runs in 5 innings. But 102 pitches, so Cora wisely elected to get him out of there.
  14. It might be argued that having 2 young catching prospects like Vazquez and Swihart was bound to become a problem at some point. I think we felt it was one of those 'good problems to have'. But I think it turned out to be a problem for Swihart, and perhaps for the team as well.
  15. Your position is reasonable. Larry's is not.
  16. I think Vazquez will be fine. We're much more likely to be in the market for bullpen help.
  17. Metrics were good to Blair. Also good to Mark Belanger, who ended his career with a .580 OPS but a bWAR of 40.9.
  18. Somewhere John Farrell is smiling. Oh well, I guess Sale threw a lot less in the spring, before the games that count started. But it's pretty hard to minimize the number of pitches thrown by your stud horse when you're in what shapes up as a season-long division battle with the Yanks and you have a short window to try to win it all...isn't it?
  19. Under the Mendoza line in mid-May, though. If anything, the numbers suggest a guy like Vazquez will go on a bit of a hot streak and end the season hitting .240 or so. That's the way I'm sure team management is looking at it. Fans tend to just look at the current BA and freak out about it.
  20. I guess JH didn't think much of the last place finishes under Ben. Say what you want but under DD we have 2 first place finishes and a great start this year. I get all the cliff talk, but saying he hasn't done well in the short term is kind of stupid, Larry.
  21. And Leon is hitting .500 is his most recent game sample. I think we're good.
  22. I think of him as Durable Dick.
  23. I don't disagree that he's been jerked around, but in 2016 they had Vazquez coming back from the injury, and they had Hanigan, who Ben had signed to a 2-year deal. If the plan was for Vazquez to be the #1, where did Swihart fit on the roster?
