  1. The same or less - because they wouldn't let him pitch 300 freakin' innings in a season LOL
  2. C'est la vie. There are also a lot more home runs and the two pretty much cancel each other out in terms of runs scored. If you go a major league game you can still expect to see an average of about 9 runs scored, and that's pretty much 'same as it ever was'. The real culprit in some of these changes is undoubtedly all the defensive shifts that encourage players to just swing for the fences. Launch angle, baby!
  3. Right. I just think the previous Wild Card system was fine. I would argue that it's more fair than the new one. The new one is a Bud Selig Special.
  4. Now there's an all-inclusive blame job - medical staff, trainers and players all in one shot! LOL
  5. And Cleveland would bypass the Wild Card game at 4 games over .500.
  6. We also have to face the prospect we could win 100 games and be in a Wild Card game. Which means that Cora may not have the luxury of doing something like giving Sale that extra rest we'd like to see him get.
  7. Really nice to see CV hitting some balls on the screws the last few games.
  8. So you fully agree they had to BS. You just think they did a bad job presenting their BS.
  9. Devers was 2 for 4 last night. Why not a little optimism? I think he'll get back on track and we'll be happy they just let him work it out.
  10. The Tigers also have a reliever named Buck Farmer.
  11. But he's a free agent at the end of the year, so a team trading for him is only going to have his services for a little over half a season.
  12. What exactly do you mean? I'm sure he's giving it 100%. Many many hitters have had bad stretches of 50 PA's.
  13. Yeah, thanks Bud! I was critical of this new format from the get-go.
  14. If you're expecting discussion that is totally logical and always on topic I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place.
  15. I just think there's a whole other side to the story, which is that Farrell bungled the whole thing. There's a right way and a wrong way to retaliate. The Sox did it the right way this year against the Yanks. They did it quickly and Kelly threw the beanball at around waist level. Last year the Sox delayed the response, they dicked around with it, Barnes threw at Machado's head - they f***ed it up completely.
  16. I'll ask you the same question I asked notin. Let's assume the option was the real reason they released him at this point. Should they have told the truth? (notin says they didn't have to give any reason at all.)
  17. Machado's next contract is just another albatross waiting to happen. A lot of Red Sox fans already dislike him. As a free agent bust he would be Public Enemy #1.
  18. Well, OK, let's just look at the FWAR's: 2014 3.8 2015 2.3 2017 1.9 Total 8.0 average 2.67 So what's your statement that he wasn't worth his money in those years based on? What do you calculate his value for those years as?
  19. I think 2004 should never be tainted by looking at it through the filter of stuff that's happened since.
  20. Wrong. FanGraphs says he was more than worth the money every year, including 2014, 2015 and 2017. You disagree with FanGraphs?
  21. Pedroia is a guy who has always given it 100% on the field. 2 championship seasons. Good O, total hustle and amazing defense. A few questionable moments shouldn't tear all that down.
  22. If 4 K's is a Golden Sombrero, what do we call 8 K's in one day? Wind Turbine?
  23. So does Schilling, but politics shouldn't matter IMO
  24. Truth with a touch of sarcasm: 'Hanley, thanks for taking our 88 million in return for one good half-season. Sorry we couldn't make it 110 million.'
