  1. 5 bodies altogether. Seems crazy. I have to think the Dodgers believe this will help them sign Machado long term.
  2. Yeah, I just don't get it.
  3. So start with a list of the big spenders who will clearly have an opening at closer next year. That would be a little more scientific than just talking about 'fools errands'. I'm pretty sure DD loves Kimbrel and is giving this a lot of attention anyway.
  4. Ah, good old Social Media. Who woulda thunk that giving just about everyone on the planet with an internet connection and the ability to keypunch a couple of sentences the opportunity to express their thoughts to the world 24/7, unblocked and uncensored, no matter what condition they're in, and have their statements captured for posterity, could possibly go wrong?
  5. There's also a town in Italy called Bastardo. Different cultures see things differently, I guess...
  6. You're right, it's a fair question. The Yankees shelled out 86 million for Chapman and the Dodgers 80 million for Jansen. So that's 2 of the biggest spenders out of play. And I'm not sure how many other teams are willing to spend anywhere near that for a closer.
  7. That'd be less than Wade Davis got (3/52).
  8. Trouble with the Gyroball really sucked.
  9. Just to be clear, we're already about 40 million over the luxury tax limit of 197 million. What's being discussed is the 237 million threshold which brings in a whole other set of penalties.
  10. Looks like the Raptors are being idiots. Not a big surprise though.
  11. As for current cool guy actors... Josh Brolin?
  12. Spud has given me a crazy hankering for Cuban espresso.
  13. MacReady.
  14. Kimbrel is a tough call. He's great, but he might be looking at $95 million. As great as he is, he entails some serious risk going forward, as all flamethrowers with some mileage on them do. I guarantee that Dombrowski loves Kimbrel and I think he'll make him an offer at least. But I think he's already got a Plan B in mind too.
  15. 7. Extra motivation after a disappointing year? I think this might also be a thing. I read an article about Bogaerts working extra hard this offseason to add some muscle.
  16. That suggests they think Machado might really like to play the rest of his career for them.
  17. Bogaerts was the same way. The only really unselfish guy, that guy who agreed to switch from SS to 3B to make things work was...no, I can't even type his name.
  18. To me that's an entirely different question. I suspect the improvement is a combination of a bunch of factors. I'm quite sure a clear measurement of these factors is impossible. But that won't stop us from arguing about them all season.
  19. That's an ouch.
  20. Not close enough to 6 for you?
  21. I was also probably one of the few people who thought the Paps-Harper thing was funny as heck.
  22. I was bored enough to watch the MLB Network doc about the 1988 Dodgers. The one thing that was interesting was the crucial detail about the famous Gibson HR off Eck. Gibson had studied the scouting report on Eck, and what really stuck in his head was the note that on 3-2 counts to lefthanded hitters Eck loves to throw the backdoor slider. Gibson was looking for it and he got it.
  23. I love it when guys who participate in the Home Run Derby go into big slumps after the ASB. I love it when guys skip the Home Run Derby because they're worried it will mess up their swings. I guess I'm a sick person.
