  1. Cohen didn't force us to stop bidding. Henry had just seen enough. Same thing with Fried, they fell way short on that too. I'm not saying they did the wrong thing, I'm just saying they have never outbid the Yanks in any significant reported competition for a player.
  2. Pure unfounded speculation on those names, there was no reportage. I suppose you can guess that everyone was in on everyone. Pretty sure we didn't outbid the Yanks on Soto. Their final offer was reported as $760 million. I believe the Sox dropped out at around $700 million.
  3. As my post clearly stated, I'm talking about outbidding the Yanks. He has never done so. Soto and Fried are merely the latest examples of tossing in the towel LOL
  4. Last year, at the start of the offseason, Montgomery was one of the guys we thought was a potential target. But he wasn't the only one. I wanted Gray, and then Imanaga. I think you also wanted Gray. It wasn't until Snell and Montgomery were the only two guys of any consequence left, and in the context of our only signing being Giolito, we all started to howl for Montgomery as the last realistic option. That's how I remember it, anyway.
  5. Never has been, never will be. I believe JH decided a long time ago that trying to outbid the Yanks is just a bad idea. And now the Mets would be added to that and possibly the Dodgers as well.
  6. I don't think it's a myth. It might be overhyped a bit, that's all. You don't see many impactful trades between the Red Sox and other AL East teams. Minor ones, sure. Unless we count the Beeks for Eovaldi trade or the Springs trade.
  7. The market has become incredibly hard to predict. Last year what happened with the Boras Four was totally bizarre. This year the money has been flowing so far, but you never know when it will dry up. Because we really have no clue what each team's budget is. And most of the big spenders have luxury tax issues to consider.
  8. Not really. He had 4 Game Scores of 50 or better in September. Looks more to me like a guy who was gradually finding his stuff again.
  9. I understand what you're saying, but "worth" is a very, very fuzzy word here. Sometimes people overpay for things simply because they're uninformed, stupid or whatever. Yoshida wasn't worth his contract for example, and reportedly a lot of people in baseball said so at the time.
  10. And if it's a podcast for frat boy types, his nickname is Crotch Rocket...
  11. They did win the World Series that year and Vaz did his job. But that's beside the point of whether any of these trade proposals make any actual sense for them...
  12. Yeah, this is a much fairer system. They can actually do some things right.
  13. Um, that plus very very solid career numbers? Reg season 713.2 IP 3.27 ERA 1.09 WHIP Postseason 94.2 IP 3.04 ERA 1.15 WHIP Let's be clear, the dude can pitch. We're not talking about a Garrett Richards type here.
  14. Yeah, he's not going to get any younger or faster, and now he'll be post-surgery. In reality he's likely to get worse.
  15. Good trade for the Yanks, I'd say.
  16. I just think it's a dumb-looking word. And it has Reese McGuire connotations. Whereas laterality is actually kind of musical...
  17. His WAR is also negatively impacted by his baserunning.
  18. And his fWARs are lower. That's what I'm saying. Thinking he's going to get better, especially after surgery, is wishcasting.
  19. Personally I think Buehler would be worth a shot, "but only of course if it's not an exorbitant price tag", adds Cap'n Obvious. Upside is upside, man. And he has some. A lot of people said Dombrowski gave that $68 million extension to Eovaldi based on one nice playoff run. But I think time has validated that Eovaldi is a near-elite talent and great character guy with obvious injury concerns, who is going to end up with a pretty nice major league resume. .
  20. The adjustments and injuries are understandable, but those are only part of his package of issues. Now the fact that we have 2 other left-handed DH types who are better hitters makes Yoshida virtually useless. If they trade Casas that might change the outlook a little. As always, I'm just jabbering away here, I don't know anything everyone else doesn't know too. 😁
  21. He has a ceiling of 1.5 WAR. The numbers bear that out. I'm not ripping him just for the sake of it. He's a below average player and a roster clog. Sucks but that's the way it is.
  22. In 2023 he got tired/had adjustment issues. In 2024 he had injury issues/couldn't hit lefties. Just an egregiously misguided signing.
  23. OK, I've made a final decision on something. I'm going with laterality.
  24. Well, the good news is they can just outright release him any time...
  25. He hit well in July and August. The rest of the year he stunk. He won't be missed.
