  1. Sox could afford to sign 2 more quality relievers. That would make the pitching potentially solid. But the fact they already signed J. Wilson probably makes 2 additions unlikely. Can we have 1 at least? Yes, I know, Kyle Finnegan. I'd take him too when it comes down to it. Hell, I might take Kenley or Chris back.
  2. But who would be fabricating, and if there is fabricating, why wouldn't the Sox get it out there that it was inaccurate? If they're not really the Interest Kings, why are they letting the Interest Kings image run wild like this?
  3. Bumping this. Holmes and Treinen are the only ones on this list signed to date, is that correct?
  4. Yeah, sure seems like he was playing hurt, and they decided the proper move was to let him keep playing hurt!
  5. But hey, what does FanGraphs know? It's not like they're just using totally objective data and formulas or anything like that.
  6. OK, I get your point, O'Neill did most of his good work earlier in the season too. That in itself does not mean subtracting him will make us a better offense.
  7. This is a team that played .420 ball after the ASB last year, folks. The offseason rejuvenates our optimism because we're fans. Something like the golf offseason makes me forget my crappier shots and think I'm going to play better next year somehow.
  8. The offense was very good in the first half of August. The crater opened in mid-August. First 14 games of August - 85 runs Second 14 games - 49 runs September 26 games - 94 runs Last 40 games - 143 runs = 3.58 per game.
  9. Now that's just mean about our new pitching lab project Justin Wilson...
  10. If they don't sign a half-decent reliever with some of that cash, it'll be malfeasance of the highest order...again.
  11. There's not that much left in the free agent hitter aisle that makes sense as an acquisition. My confidence in this FO doing the things that need to be done is shattered, obviously.
  12. Or maybe we're just not the brightest bulbs on the tree.
  13. Well played, but still, the more I think about it, the more I think it's kind of funny we're brushing off the loss of O'Neill. Our offense wasn't very good, it was horrible late in the season even with Casas and Story back, we subtracted our #2 OPS guy and added nothing...where the heck is the improvement going to come from? It's all on the kids, like I say.
  14. True, August was more like mediocre - OPS+ of 98. Seems like the wheels started falling off about mid-August.
  15. I'm optimistic about Story too, because I'm a Red Sox fan, but it's not going to be the biggest shock if he's cooked as a hitter, either.
  16. OK. But to simplify matters and take laterality out of it, O'Neill had an .847 OPS and 132 OPS+, both #2 on the team, and he gone.
  17. I understand. But I'm not ruling out they may be onto something. This is a team that OPSed .736 in August and a grotesque .654 in September. This is an offense that was downright putrid for the last 2 months of 2024. An offense that turned into a bunch of wind turbines. And they did nothing about it. Hopes rest on the kids.
  18. I will say this - WAR is proving to be pretty useless as far as a barometer for the Cy Young, simply because the two main WAR calculators can come up with vastly different results - one based on "what actually happened" and one on "what should have happened".
  19. Cool, I thought so. Good to have you aboard here. I posted there too, as did a bunch of others here.
  20. True, but we do play in other parks, and our RH hitting has a chance to be outright pitiful, unless Campbell really rocks it.
  21. Quick question, drewski - did you ever post on the Boston Globe Sox forum?
  22. The FO "should be" embarrassed by the hideous projections for the offense.
  23. Yes, we can all breathe a sigh of relief that the only potential expensive acquisitions left aren't much use anyway. The Sox FO has done their job again.
  24. I think they've reached the stage where Sox fans who are in touch with reality ignore anything that sounds promising and key in on the signs that the payroll is staying in the 10-15 range where FSG shareholders like it.
  25. Agreed, but the real problem is that the Red Sox front office has so little credibility now because reality keeps showing they're the Interest Kings who keep delivering the promises but not the goods. Which I don't think is Breslow's fault. But he's the one who has to make most of the public statements.
