  1. Cash will score big points on 2 counts, narrative-wise: 1) 'Getting something out of nothing'. 2) Being an 'innovator' with the 'bullpen games' and the 'opener'. He'll probably win.
  2. I will guess that DD makes a serious offer to Kimbrel right away, and if Craig doesn't take it, DD pivots in another direction for relief pitching right away.
  3. That's bull, Station. In August they averaged 6.15 runs a game. You need to check the facts occasionally.
  4. If the Yankees go wild with big FA deals this offseason it would represent kind of a 180 degree turn from the direction Cashman appears to have been moving in the last few years, trying NOT to be the way the team was in his early days as GM. And presumably he has had the support of Hal in that regard. I'll be surprised if they make that 180 degree turn. But you never know. The Red Sox, for their part, have tended to waffle a bit in their philosophy in the JH years.
  5. I would certainly have no problem with Cash winning it. But the MOY award has always been kind of a weird one to me. It usually goes to a manager whose team did much better than expected. If there's no team that clearly fits the bill it'll probably go to a manager with a strong reputation. It's extremely difficult for a manager to win it twice in a row...
  6. Rays 7-13 M's 6-14
  7. The Royals missed the playoffs 28 straight years from 1986 to 2013.
  8. Yes, the game thread regs are very demanding fellows.
  9. Yep. My order would be: 1. Pitching 2. Timely hitting 3. Defense
  10. To quote one of our game thread stalwarts, our manager is 'Corable'.
  11. Houston +251 Boston +220 It's relatively close. Last year Cleveland was +254, and I think they may have had the greatest second half in modern history. But it somehow didn't translate into a title... She's a funny old game.
  12. Devers season has been moderately disappointing but far from discouraging.
  13. The amount of bitching in this thread about Betts not playing is beyond belief. I think some of the game thread regulars will still be ragging on Cora for resting guys after we clinch.
  14. That's a compliment.
  15. Yeah, it's unreal.
  16. First someone please explain how DRS is calculated. I see that's it a component of UZR. Does it refer to only the more difficult plays?
  17. Absolutely. And it gets more favorable tax treatment, right? (In Canada you're taxed on only 50% of capital gains.)
  18. I think there's a lot of overlap with those two things. If you're spending more than you can afford, that's usually unwise (unless it's something you're forced to do).
  19. So spending like a drunken sailor isn't a problem then.
  20. I believe the implication is that drunken sailors spend more than they can afford to spend, whereas Henry can afford it.
  21. Maybe it's because you're not a gambler that you can be so sure about something like that. When you gamble and put serious money behind such statements you can get burned at it.
  22. If it was 100%, it wasn't a gamble.
  23. I hadn't even realized it was originally scheduled for 1:00 till just now.
  24. Well, you're admitting that it would have been a gamble.
  25. Is a hundred dollars the most you would risk?
