  1. Opt-out mania! It'd be interesting to see many long-term deals now have NO opt-out.
  2. I do think Campbell has a shot at opening day 2B if he impresses bigly in spring opportunities.
  3. Especially since they seem very busy trying to work out a trade for him.
  4. They have to get a deal done and I'm pretty sure they will. It's mandatory after what they've invested in him and their need for a TOTR fixture.
  5. Right. I could be wrong here but I think Ohtani is the one who really made it clear he only wanted to play on the West Coast when he chose the Halos.
  6. Out of Casas, Grissom and Story, the only one that's had his 25th birthday is Story, so I don't think age is a factor here. Casas - his injury is of a type that makes us all nervous, no question. May have to do with why they seem to be actively shopping him. Grissom - Mr. X - the odds don't seem great he's a long-term Red Sox player, but they have to give him a shot. Story - have to give him his shot too. Sale-esque situation. I don't think the Sox are really counting on any of these 3 as locks to be healthy and productive.
  7. Everyone would prefer Bregman as a player. I think the Sox would only be interested in Arenado if St. Louis is paying a lot of it. And of course the rumors are that Casas would be going in the deal, which means the Sox would be looking for another significant piece...and Devers would move to !B... And it's all just rumors.
  8. The West Coast Preference legend probably started when Ohtani chose the Angels. And then last year of course Ohtani and Yamamoto both chose the Dodgers. There's some credence to the geographical proximity part of it. But like you say, Japanese players sign with other teams too. Maybe it's just that Ohtani and Yamamoto get so much of the attention.
  9. Rich ownership though. Paid tax for 2021, 2022 and 2023.
  10. Not being snarky, but does anyone know who the other teams are?
  11. It's no secret that Japanese players prefer the West Coast. But you can see who the other 4 teams are. The Sox have lost some prestige and credibility as one of the high power teams, it's just the way it is.
  12. Padres, sure. But it's going to be one of the 7 teams he picked to meet with. Angels and Mariners are not among them.
  13. He may have said that, but the list of 7 teams he's meeting with kind of says otherwise.
  14. If there's one thing better than the eye test, it's the gut test. 😉
  15. Just getting what they deserve for their sustained stretch of penny-pinching and mediocrity.
  16. Perfect opportunity for him though.
  17. No one can say. Omerta. Henry and Werner own more than 50% together so if they agree on something it's a done deal.
  18. Whose money is it? The bottom line profit/loss and increase/decrease in market value belongs to the shareholders of Fenway Sports Group, of which Henry is the principal shareholder with 40% or so. Henry could actually claim that since he doesn't own a majority of shares, he doesn't have control over the payroll. We're owned by a consortium now.
  19. What an utterly demented thing to do.
  20. Let's give them a little credit for their math skills. They didn't go over in 2022 by mistake. And at the time, they didn't think not getting back under was a mistake. In 20/20 retrospect it might look like mistakes.
  21. Conversely, they've sucked some years they've gone over. Including 2022.
  22. Offering Martin more than he actually got does suggest, however, that they're looking to add at least one more "late inning guy". Doing some stockpiling of our own on late inning relievers might not be the worst play.
  23. Holy Hypotheticals! I think you just out-mooned moon.
  24. Fried is one of the most talented starters in the game, averaging 4.9 bWAR per 162 games. But he also turns 31 before the season starts and this is an 8 year deal. So super-risky, but it's the Yanks after all, they're already carrying Cole and Rodon at hefty rates. They just don't care.
