  1. Maddon made a brutal move choosing Heyward to hit in that critical situation instead of Schwarber. Game on the line and he chose the inferior hitter. Cubs fans are howling about it on the forum I checked.
  2. Why the hell would Maddon have Heyward hit there instead of Schwarber?
  3. That would be the worst. Phillies fans must have felt like their hearts were ripped out. Only 2 teams in the playoffs in those days. Gene Mauch was the manager of that 1964 Phillies team. He was also the manager of the 1986 Angels team that lost the ALCS to us after leading 3 games to 1, and by 3 runs in the 9th in Game 5 in their home park.
  4. Yes, that's fair.
  5. I certainly don't disagree that 2008 was his best. But I don't like playing the retrospective game either, as has been done with the 2007 grand slam. Someone could also argue, rather absurdly, that Damon's grand slam in 2004 wasn't that big of a deal since we won 10-3.
  6. Atlanta also had a nasty collapse in 2011.
  7. Clutchness was simply oozing out of J D Drew that game.
  8. The Cubs had a 5 game lead for the division on September 2. If they lose tonight, maybe this should be added to the list of September collapses.
  9. And you can be sure Billy's second favorite team is whoever's playing the Red Sox.
  10. Let's see what his price looks like after he leads us to a championship.
  11. Then we would just have to replace Mookie in right...
  12. Kind of hard to say whose side you're really on sometimes.
  13. It is amazing, what may be more amazing is that they also did this in 2013.
  14. Clay put up such good numbers this year that some team will likely be willing to give him a deal. I'm guessing it would be a one-year deal with a small base plus incremental amounts for numbers of innings pitched.
  15. It's a small quibble, but you don't seem to be practicing what you preach when you tell others not to be heavily influenced by small samples and recent results. Over their careers, Moreland has been a better hitter than Holt and a better first baseman as well.
  16. Moreland may be heating up too? 4 hits and 3 walks in his last 3 games.
  17. Holt over Moreland would really be going with the *HOT HAND*.
  18. Brock Holt has had a pretty amazing upsurge in his OPS at the end of the year.
  19. He absolutely would have been here if Sheffield mowed us down. Didn't work out that way.
  20. I certainly agree that the players who are in the game are trying to perform. My only point is that the teams don't really care as you can see by the lineups and subs and pitching choices. It's gahbage time. And yes, it always feels better beating the Yanks than losing - even in actual pre-season games, crazy as it is.
  21. Where are our Yankee friends today? Don't they know this game is for the season series?
  22. Does it look to you like the Yanks care about this one?
  23. Yes, last year. Houston's 2017 bullpen had a 4.27 ERA - and they were even worse in the playoffs. Do you feel a little better now?
  24. Leon and Kelly in the game thread crosshairs today!
  25. He's done pretty well. Definitely worth considering on a reasonable deal. But he'll probably get an unreasonable deal from someone.
