The pen is a question mark until we see it in action. To say that DD didn't make a move is not quite accurate though, because he made a bunch of dumpster dives.

Clay did well getting the deal he got. He pitched well last year but started and ended on the DL. I like the move for the Jays and hope he does well.

He didn't say that, of course. He said too many owners don't want to spend the money. It's certainly possible that there are owners who are more interested in making profits and capital gains than they are in providing a winning team. At the same time that doesn't mean it's smart to just sign every splashy free agent you can, obviously. But let's not oversimplify the issues and make everything pure black and white. There's plenty in between.

It's really too soon to say. I think Mookie is a very smart guy and he figures the less he says the better, which is probably true, because whatever you say tends to get used against you somehow. -
Jack Flap says they reported on it a number of other times though.

That was just one bad game as it turned out, fortunately. Imagine what will happen if the pen blows 2 games the first week of the season.

So without any term contracts, would all the players be free agents at the end of each year? That'd be fun. And we've talked about some of the issues with paying based on performance. How much would the Red Sox owe Mookie Betts for 2018?

It's going to be interesting to see what happens, though, if our pen struggles badly out of the gate. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thinking that dark little thought.

Dates of birth: Machado July 6/92 Betts Oct 7/92 Harper Oct 16/92 The one thing in our favor with Mookie is that he hits free agency 2 years later than Machado and Harper. -
I'm no expert on PED's either. But from what I've read one of the big advantages of PED's is the increased stamina they give when you're working out and lifting weights, which makes it possible to get bigger and stronger much more quickly.

Buchholz is not just any ex-Sox player. He's one of the few Red Sox homegrown starting pitchers of our lifetimes who had the potential to be elite. He didn't achieve the potential, we all know that, but he still shows the flashes of greatness. And when he's on he's one of the most fun pitchers to watch.

I think your cynicism is a little over the top. A lot of players do perform well after they get paid. Even the much maligned Manny Ramirez. He played as well after signing with us as he did before signing with us. A lot of these guys love playing the game and playing it well. It's why they got into it in the first place.
