For his career Middlebrooks had a K/BB ratio of about 5 to 1. That's death. JBJ is more like 3 to 1. Not great but not death.

Joe Brady on BDC educated me in the importance of K/BB ratio. He said Middlebrooks's ratio pointed to failure.

Right, but the JDM thing had nothing to do with WAR and projections. It just irked him the way we were taking for granted that JDM was going to sign with us eventually. It's understandable that a non-Red Sox fan would feel like that. We have gotten a little cocky with our success and our free-spending owner.

harmony is always trying to spoil our fun, it's just what he does. Last offseason he was trying to torture us about JDM signing somewhere else. We know how that worked out. If you were to go back a few years you would find posts by harmony warning us not to become too exuberant about the potential of Mookie Betts.

harmony, a personal question here, hopefully not an offensive one. When was the last time you said something like: 'Man, I think this guy is really gonna be good!' Can you remember back that far? Did it ever even happen?

I think it will be great news for Sox fans if they do it. It will be a clear signal from JH that he is all in for the foreseeable future.

It is a bit befuddling. For me personally it's not quite as befuddling as the 2015 'Who's the ace?' rotation. Hopefully the results are better.

'Guaranteeing himself' $13 mill. That's just comical, considering what's been going the last few offseasons. -
Plus an .884 OPS in the postseason (51 PA's). It's all small samples at this point, obviously.

It's questionable strategy to opt out when the potential gain is that small. -
In Halifax Yankee gear is seen a lot. But it's easily outnumbered by Sox gear. I wouldn't be surprised if Jays gear is in third place.

My guess is that Dombrowski enjoys chatting about baseball with him, and that's about it. LaRussa is technically some sort of advisor, right? It's not a bad thing having an advisor if you're under no commitment to actually utilize any information or opinion they give. Bill James too.
