  1. I think there's plenty of room for Betts regardless.
  2. In theory, you keep him if you're in it and trade him if you're not.
  3. It really looks that way.
  4. Would Kimbrel now settle for Wade Davis money?
  5. 'Physically unable to perform' does kind of nail it, doesn't it?
  6. But we haven't signed any relievers at all, and there were quite a few available. That does suggest there wasn't much in the budget for relievers.
  7. His career BA is 226.

  9. There's another report floating out there that the White Sox offer to Machado was 8/250 (rather than the 7/175 originally reported).
  10. No, he's not perfect. But in my opinion, if we're going to look to a 'model team builder' it has to be one who actually exists.
  11. I was just joking around. Williams and Ortiz might have been the two most incredible exceptions to the rule in history.
  12. Yep. What would Mookie's merit-based pay for 2018 be?
  13. GM's should bear risk, absolutely. When you sign a player for 5 or more years you're not doing it strictly out of generosity. You're doing it because you want custody of the asset for an extended period. For that ownership and potential value you should pay a price in risk.
  14. 36> Ted Williams, David Ortiz
  15. JD Martinez was basically Sox fans either going 'when the hell are we going to sign him' or 'Dombrowski is being smart and waiting him out' while Harmony tried to convince us there were other teams in the mix.
  16. Kimbrel's PR value seems to be in the crapper right now. Dombrowski has basically said goodbye, it's been nice knowing you, and a lot of Sox fans are doing the same. And there hasn't been one substantial rumor about any team pursuing him. There has been speculation about a few teams that might be interested and that's it. I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the guy.
  17. Well that's right. It's my belief that the way things are set up, you can't always be risk-averse. Theo Epstein clearly subscribes to that theory. And he is the man, after all.
  18. This still bothers you?
  19. Yeah, they still make DVD's for us Luddites.
  20. There haven't been that many of them to evaluate. Jeter's returned the value. A-Rod's first one would have returned the value if he hadn't opted out. Votto's has been pretty good.
  21. 'Wise decision' can be kind of difficult to define in terms of MLB economics and the chasing of rings. If Price's contract was unwise, I would argue that the one Theo gave Jon Lester was just about the same. But Lester helped the Cubs finally win a ring, so was it a good move? I would say hell yes to that.
  22. Isn't there a distinction between 'peak' and 'prime', though?
  23. As you know, they had to put Game 3 of the World Series on 2 DVD's, which is kind of comical. I wonder what the cutoff point is before it's too long for one DVD. Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS fit on one DVD.
  24. It's a tougher question to answer now, because it seems that there is a serious change occurring in the market. I want them to do what it takes to keep Mookie, without overpaying comparing to what his current market would be.
  25. That isn't what I was asking. You said '8 years for a 26yo player isn’t the worst contract we will see this off season' So which will be the worst we see this off season?
