  1. Jacko refers to our bullpen as an "abject dumpster fire". It wasn't enough to just call it a "dumpster fire", he had to ramp it up even further with the "abject" adjective.
  2. It's a sensible rule. Though I'm not sure sensible is always the best thing.
  3. 82-80
  4. lol
  5. But there were no other bidders left. Lester had informed the Giants they were out. Theo apparently felt he had to beat our offer by a lot to get Lester. It's just total unsupported speculation that our offer wasn't legit.
  6. Is that as long as it takes to prove or disprove this theory? I thought it was the rest of the damn century.
  7. That's an enormous maybe. The reports were that Lester's choice came down to the Cubs and the Red Sox. Theo jumped the Sox offer by $20 million, so I assume he was taking it quite seriously.
  8. Woo hoo! 10/300 is the early call.
  9. I've heard this one before and I must say, it's a classic LOL I don't know how old you are, but I know I sure ain't gonna be around long enough to find out if this a real thing...
  10. It certainly is. And in theory if Cash had waited he could have gotten Happ, Britton, Ottavino and LeMahieu for less. I think these guys know what they're doing a lot more than we do.
  11. Another point about this so-called 'rule' is that they actually 'broke it' right away with Lester when they went back and offered him 6/135.
  12. Obviously. As you know that's the way it often works with this stuff.
  13. I think it was John Henry that made those comments, and then he quickly changed his mind, yes. So what though? He's the owner and he's allowed to make the odd error in judgment. I'm just kind of tired of hearing that particular story, I guess. It wasn't really some sort of carved-in-stone public pronouncement.
  14. MLBTR had a lot of teams in on Eovaldi. Presumably Dombrowski had to beat more than a 3/30 offer.
  15. I don't think it would be allowed, otherwise there would already be cases of it being done.
  16. Right. I'm thinking more in terms of a certified hot commodity like Sale - assuming he is sound physically.
  17. To me Big Data is just another annoying new catch phrase. What exactly does it mean in connection with baseball?
  18. And it's a competitive market with limited goods, right? Nobody really wants to give out the long term big money deals, but if you don't, the next guy will, and you lose the player.
  19. Wait and see - good one, Nick.
  20. So you still haven't figured out who sets the budget, and you somehow missed every story about how much luxury tax it would cost to sign Kimbrel. Nice work.
  21. Pedroia got injured (thanks Manny). I think that was the problem more so than being beyond his prime. Maybe we should not even try to keep Betts and Benintendi and the rest of our young studs, because there's too much risk in long term contracts, right? Just let them all go and tank for a few years and let John Henry rake in the money instead.
  22. What's especially bad from the players viewpoint is that this CBA has nearly 4 full years left on it.
  23. That's the way the report makes it sound, but the odds are so much against signing both Sale and Xander that it's all just fodder for the media. If you want a guess, mine is that if they were to extend one of Sale or Bogaerts, they won't extend the other because of Betts.
  24. Ha, as opposed to baseball where grown men throw, hit and catch a larger ball and run around. All sports are nonsensical when you deconstruct them.
  25. I think it's perfect.
