  1. That has no impact on the 2020 payroll for tax purposes though.
  2. Well-known sources as usual! You just go on Google and grab whatever pops up.
  3. If Bogaerts and Porcello depart after this year, that's a fair chunk of money off the books.
  4. It was kind of an inconsequential move, since what we gave up was Bard and Meredith. In what turned out to be a lost season. Only us nutty Sox fans would still be arguing about such a trivial transaction all these years later.
  5. I actually forgive both Damon and Ellsbury, because they helped us win championships first. With Boggs and Clemens it went the other way, and they would probably be two of my least favorite Sox players anyway.
  6. Man, if he doesn't acquire Wilson, notin will be all over him. * *This post appears in 2 threads.
  7. Man, if he doesn't acquire Wilson, notin will be all over him.
  8. I think Alex Cora is making the call on this. And don't forget, he's the best manager in team history.
  9. I can't really say. But when I'm watching a game I don't like to be constantly bombarded with data. I think there has to be kind of a balanced approach.
  10. Trying your hand at puns now? From what we're hearing about the stat geeks employed by teams now I can't see how they're much behind.
  11. My take is that a lot of the analytics are useful, but I do think there's a bit of an overkill factor now...
  12. But I don't think Mr. Average Fan is completely oblivious of the fact that Theo Epstein is a fan of analytics or that analytics may have played a part in the titles.
  13. I have one child and she's 22. Winter frolics are over.
  14. I can honestly say I don't spend much time outside when it's super-cold.
  15. How much playing time does Tom Brady get in Patriots pre-season games?
  16. I'm not bringing this up to troll the Yankee fans. But it would have been kind of embarrassing if Cashman waited until the season started to announce the extensions for Severino and Hicks.
  17. Major sweeping generalization, Denny. Who is the average fan, and why can't they just ignore all the analytics and all the financial talk?
  18. I'll take cold over snow because you don't HAVE to shovel cold. We get some serious snowfall here.
  19. The way I see it right now is that over the last 15 years the Red Sox are the most successful team in MLB with 4 titles. So we ARE the model team over that time frame. And as everyone can see, even the model team makes its share of mistakes. Because in MLB the performance of players is always difficult to predict because it's such a thin line between success and failure at the level they're competing at.
  20. If you have all 0 WAR players I think you will win 60-65 games. Kimmi has the exact number. The 'R' stands for replacement level player, which basically means a guy who is just barely good enough to play in the majors. On a good team he's the type of player you call up when the regular gets injured.
  21. Let's go Poyner!
  22. Porcello has earned most of his contract, I think. He came up big in the playoff run this year. I'm glad he's with us another year as well.
  23. I think the only way Mookie gets traded is the same way Lester got traded - trade deadline 2020, if we're well out of it.
