  1. If the Red Sox are more than 40 million over the first tax threshold this year, they pay 72.5% on every additional dollar (30+42.5 surtax). That would be about $9 million. If the Red Sox are more than 40 million over the first tax threshold this year and next year, they will pay 95% on every additional dollar (50+45) next year. That would be about $11 million.
  2. What does pitching in the home park have to do with it? It's a hitter's park.
  3. They obviously don't want to risk getting stuck with the tax bill on top of the $12 mill they're already paying. Oh well, his contract is over after 2020!
  4. As I said in the other thread, baseball-wise his career got screwed by luxury tax rules shenanigans.
  5. Castillo? Baseball-wise his career got screwed by luxury tax rules shenanigans.
  6. Wow, that's one of the most downbeat assessments of a good performance I've ever seen. Nice work.
  7. Right. So there's not much point having a poll option 'would you trade him if the return was good enough?' because then most everyone would say yes.
  8. Swihart sucks.
  9. There was a time when winning the ALCS MVP would win a Red Sox player a lot of goodwill.
  10. Nunez wouldn't even bring back the proverbial bag of baseballs right now.
  11. In my defense (pun intended), I said 'might'. I won't even say that now.
  12. Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats Devers made 68% of routine plays as a rookie, he made 70% last season, he is making 76% this season. League average 3B makes 72%. His range is excellent. He's been -1 defensive run this season, so league average. People that want to move him off 3B are legitimately dumb.
  13. Every fan has their own reactions. I have kind of a neutral feeling about the 2019 team. I think they're obviously suffering from a major case of post-championship letdown. Also, everything went so well last year that the law of averages sort of dictated that some stuff would go wrong this year. And yet there is still so much talent that if they get it together I think they can get a Wild Card spot at least. But they're pretty hard to predict. I'm just gonna watch and see.
  14. Unless JDM opts out, it's going to be pretty hard to reset regardless.
  15. It was meant to be a simple binary proposition - do you want him here or wish he was gone? No need to muddy the waters with all the different scenarios. IMHO
  16. Time to put this to a poll.
  17. What about walks.
  18. The only good news about that is that Barnes only had to throw 2 pitches.
  19. How's Chavis at third base?
  20. The Sox were the only team willing to pay him last time. He'll be 2 years older this time. He's a great hitter but he's a DH. He's had some injury issues. He just missed 2 games with back spasms. I think he'll stay put.
  21. There's nowhere to go but up.
  22. Devers is looking better at the plate. I highly doubt he gets traded. He might be playing first next year though.
  23. His statement is perhaps a little too general, but it has a lot of truth in it. The people who want JBJ gone don't give a damn what his WAR is.
  24. The word 'hate' is mostly just being used in the sports fan sense here. We're just talking about the people who keep heaping abuse on JBJ for his play and calling for him to be traded or released-to be not seen in a Red Sox uniform anymore.
