  1. IMHO it's just a weird combination of circumstances. As has been noted, the player is being paid over $70 million to play for Pawtucket, so there are worse things.
  2. They haven't DFA'd Thornburg yet so I guess they'll give him another shot or two in blowout spots. The team is much more patient than we are, which is generally a good thing.
  3. What happened with Castillo was this: -There was a loophole in the previous CBA that allowed the Red Sox to remove Castillo from the 40 man roster and thus not have his salary count for tax purposes. -In the new CBA the loophole was closed, so that if the Sox added him to the roster Castillo's salary would count for tax purposes until the end of his contract.
  4. Well, he's putting up some nice numbers for the PawSox fans this year. 21 Ribbies in 22 games!
  5. But can they sign him for minimum wage in 2021 like any other pre-arb player?
  6. There you go. Can we assemble a starting nine?
  7. One thing about Castillo's contract situation with the Sox that's almost funny is that he is under team control for 4 years AFTER his contract expires in 2020. He's not even eligible for arbitration in 2021.
  8. Yep. Not enough slices of pie to go around.
  9. Porcello's performance on Tuesday night does not go down as one of the great pitching gems in history. You're right that the A's are a mediocre offensive team at best. But 8 innings of shutout ball with 4 baserunners allowed is impressive nonetheless. I would hazard a guess that there haven't been many 8 inning shutouts in all of MLB this year.
  10. Players you wouldn't want to invite to a party: Ryan Dull Justin Grimm Justin Bour
  11. That should all be reflected in his negative WAR.
  12. Yes, a Yankee loss would make it a very nice day at the ball yards.
  13. Rays lose the first of the doubleheader.
  14. Proving that there's always something to complain about.
  15. Need the Royals to hang on to the lead over the Rays.
  16. It's a unique situation, that's for sure.
  17. You don't have to be a stat geek to look up home and road splits. It's incredibly easy.
  18. Anyone's guess. If the Sox think he's going to OPS .400 all year, they're probably looking for a replacement right now.
  19. Let's simplify it a bit. He has a WAR of about -1 right now. He's been awful and no, the defense doesn't outweigh offense that's this bad. Those that support him think he'll eventually snap out of this horrific slump and get his WAR back on the plus side. That's how it has worked the past couple of years. Not that complicated.
  20. Thanks man, at least someone else understood.
  21. Don't try to obfuscate. The bottom line is it's more conducive to run-scoring than the average park. There is no advantage to pitching in Fenway whether you're a Red Sox pitcher or an opposing pitcher.
