  1. And a lot of them are sucking. It looks like a lottery, with pretty bad odds.
  2. I fail to see how signing Pearce over Joe Kelly looks like a mistake.
  3. He looks more like Manny Ramirez to me - a tank.
  4. Who brought up Wright here anyway? Oh yes, it was that troublemaker Kimmi.
  5. Guys get hurt running the bases all the time. I wouldn't call it a freak. Chien-Ming Wang is a pitcher who (arguably) had his career ruined on the basepaths.
  6. Shoulder injuries are not the greatest things for pitchers, no. You must be kidding about the DV and PED scandals. Neither of those were career-enders by any stretch of the imagination.
  7. Ty Buttrey is pitching well so far. That one might hurt.
  8. I am defending the signing of Pearce, yes. It remains to be seen whether DD has done his job with the pen or not. But one thing seems abundantly clear, even if he signed some pricy free agent relievers it would have been a total crapshoot. It was like that last year too.
  9. They'd be in no better shape. And Allen is on the IL now.
  10. That's the other beauty of the kid. He has excellent plate discipline. More walks than K's in the minors.
  11. His smile is even better than his dad's.
  12. He put the ball in play 4 times and 3 of those were to the opposite field. The other one came a few feet short of going over the left-field fence. I'm kind of excited about this guy myself.
  13. Indeed. Strange s*** can happen these days.
  14. He looks like the real deal, the whole package. And he radiates love of the game. This guy is going to be great for baseball.
  15. Or we could have re-signed Joe Kelly for a mere 25 mill. That'd look great right now.
  16. Just imagine if we took Pearce's 6.25 mill, added another 2.75 mill plus tax and signed Allen. Oh yeah, we'd be much better off right now.
  17. Maybe they wouldn't have spent the 6.25 million on the bullpen anyway. Or maybe spent it on Cody Allen or one of the other guys stinking it up. DD just seemed determined not to spend a nickel on the pen.
  18. Wright could also have pitched for another 10 years, for all you and I know. Wakefield pitched till he was 44. You're basically saying that even if that play finished Wright's career it was no big deal. Nice.
  19. Moreland isn't a flat-out bad player. But having a platoon partner for him makes a lot of sense to me. I don't disagree that the money spent on Pearce mightn't have been better spent. But it doesn't mean a Moreland-Pearce platoon is a bad thing.
  20. Vlad Jr. looked good in his debut. Good at-bats, big double in the ninth, handled the plays he had at third perfectly. Jays fans were going nuts over him.
  21. What? Not even teams with the highest payroll can afford to have good players at every position.
  22. Is 'finished his career' more accurate then?
  23. It's true that in both cases bad luck was involved, but the scenarios were pretty different. Wright had never been on the basepaths in his career when Farrell inserted him there. And he's not the most athletic-looking ballplayer. He was a fish out of water.
  24. It would also be a funny prank to play on the people who show up at 7.
  25. Your life will probably be great in 25 years. I'm 63 and I still feel pretty good physically, and my golf swing isn't much different. Luck is everything when it comes to health of course.
