  1. Well, I think you're a facts and numbers guy like me. So what, exactly, is the evidence that Porcello's ramp-up this year was significantly different than last year's?
  2. What return pitcher exactly?
  3. Yes, that's a wee bit of an issue.
  4. A .778 OPS is not horrible. Beni has hovered around the .800 mark over the least few years. Don't be swayed by the doomsayers.
  5. The lack of patience shown by some fans is way beyond ridiculous, Denny.
  6. Don't tell me you're looking to trade Beni too.
  7. Well done sir.
  8. That's right. They're all individuals, and when you look at them as individuals, the Restgate thing kind of falls apart. Take Porcello. He pitched 12 innings in spring. He usually pitches 15 or 16, I assume. Does anyone really think the drop of 3-4 spring innings screwed his season? We're talking about a veteran pitcher whose resume suggests he knows how to prepare and how to keep himself in condition. And who is in a contract year, I might add.
  9. So the NESN announcers were being homers?
  10. So how do we explain the excellent seasons of Devers, Bogey and Vazquez? How do we explain the improvement in Devers's defense?
  11. So if I'm following along correctly, you think we should trade both Betts and Beni ASAP? What about JBJ? Hell, let's trade the whole outfield! That'll shake up the team.
  12. What, were there actual promos of the "Pretty Beni Swing" or something?
  13. Yes, Max, I think it's entirely possible that Restgate has been overplayed just a wee bit. The starters pitched fewer innings than normal, but they weren't entirely inactive by any means. One can also dig up plenty of examples of pitchers who have had a small number of innings pitched in spring or zero innings pitched in spring and suffered no apparent ill effects. The ultimate explanation might be just that there are a lot of variances and randomness in baseball that no one has ever been able to explain.
  14. Tyler, you're making me see double.
  15. If not them, someone equally pathetic.
  16. I'm not sure he tends to panic any more than other owners.
  17. That's disgusting, and anyone who calls him that is the scum of sports journalism.
  18. I think Henry has a little more patience than you think. He stuck with Farrell through sub-.500 2014 and 2015 seasons.
  19. Well, they would certainly try. But it seems to me that even great ones like Francona don't make the playoffs every year.
  20. I thought Peter Abraham said it was an intestinal issue or something.
  21. Somehow I think that Alex Cora is well aware that things have to improve, and that if he knew exactly what 'remedial action' would result in more wins he would do it.
  22. Like I said he made 4 starts. Couldn't it have occurred during that period?
  23. I think that's one of those ideas that's great in theory but problematic in practice. Otherwise teams would be doing it already.
  24. Same. Following my premise that his remarks can be interpreted any way you want, I think they might actually be directed at the fans too, and that the unfiltered version would be something like this: 'Look, we're already spending our asses off to bring parades to you. But as soon as anything goes wrong you start whining like pussies and pointing fingers in every direction. Well, don't look at me to spend any more, you miserable, ungrateful pricks.'
