  1. I kind of forgot about this too, but they only played 144 games in 1995, so 86-58 was not so bad.
  2. It was spotty, but they did make the playoffs in 1995. The Pedro trade was a mammoth step forward for sure.
  3. I don't know, man. In the Duquette years it did feel like the team was at least TRYING every year.
  4. But this is what we've been reduced to. Last year's team played .500 for a long time, had a hot streak before the break that raised hopes, and played .420 ball after the break.
  5. I get that. I've reached the point where it's become more of a black comedy than anything.
  6. And last year stunk about as bad as the two years before it. Not sure why last year is a reason to feel optimistic about anything. It's more like, why should we expect anything different?
  7. The idea that Wong is going to suddenly improve his D is just another joke on us. Wong and Narvaez is a terrible plan. Cheap, though.
  8. There are always injuries. The thing with the Red Sox is they have no depth to cover them. If Raffy goes down it's basically a lost season. The offense flatlined from mid-August on when Raffy was injured and flailing.
  9. We say projections are useless, but the pre-season team projections for the Red Sox as a .500ish team the last 3 years turned out to be dead on. Projections for individual players are really difficult, but over a team the variances tend to even out a lot. Maybe it's just that the Sox have become a very predictably mediocre team.
  10. Sorry, I'm disgusted with their offseason "effort" once again. What's really going on just gets more and more obvious. Kennedy's blurb about going over the CBT threshold was just another dangled carrot.
  11. Casas isn't getting traded. That ship has sailed. No worries about Bregman, that's not happening either. It's a purely academic debate.
  12. Jack is cheap as heck and causes no roster complications. It's no wonder the Sox are so big on him.
  13. I'm not all excited about Alex Bregman. I just have a feeling the alternative is Jack DIddlesquat.
  14. That's great about the holding firm thing, but Craig did say they need a RH bat, and he hasn't produced one. What was his alternative to Bregman is the question.
  15. Might as well hope for the best. It fits perfectly with this team's general approach!
  16. Sure feels like the "hope as a strategy" thing with Wong and a completely untested backup. Cheap, though.
  17. If they don't do anything further, the Sox 2025 offense is going to need Anthony and/or Campbell to instantly produce, or it could really stink. Especially if, God forbid, Devers's shoulder issues linger. Jansen for Chapman seems like a lateral move at best. They could easily have done more to bolster the late inning bullpen. Credit to Breslow for some bold starting pitching moves, but it still feels like there's something deeply wrong with this organization, And it seems pretty clear the something wrong is the attention they pay to the payroll budget and the bottom line.
  18. I don't know if the A's have actual fans any more, but if they did, Miller would probably be a fan favorite. A young flame-throwing closer. If they have fans, it would not be a popular move.
  19. Exploring is what our front office does best.
