  1. Yeah, that's my kind of Chaos too.
  2. John Henry and fellow owners can sell the team right now for a profit of about 2.5 billion on their original investment. I don't think he's freaking out about a few million in payroll luxury tax.
  3. Well said Dewey.
  4. Shouldn't even be treated as a serious possibility.
  5. It's a nasty meltdown but it's not nearly as bad as 2011. In 2011 a supposed super-team blew a huge lead. 2019 is basically just a s*****, disappointing season, on the heels of a championship.
  6. You made a mistake recently that I didn't correct. Now it's a zero tolerance policy.
  7. But we'd be judging the Thornburg and Smith trades differently if they had been healthy and pitched anything like they did the year before we got them.
  8. Hindsight Jury says: if Logan Allen turns out to be something, it was definitely an overpay.
  9. When you're the decision-maker or manager of the Boston Red Sox you're subjected to heavy scrutiny and criticism on a daily basis. And winning championships doesn't change a thing.
  10. All we know is what's come out to the public. But there is some evidence of Henry being involved in certain big transactions. Just a few examples that come to mind: 1) When the Red Sox met with Teixeira and Boras, it was Henry who announced afterward, rather disgustedly, that the Sox were not going to be signing him. 2) He made the statement about it not being a good idea to sign long term deals with pitchers over 30, or words to that effect. 3) Regarding the Sale extension, he said that the team made a mistake in how they handled the Lester negotiations and that they didn't want to do the same thing with Sale.
  11. The changes they made with free agent compensation really have an impact on decisions like this one. Theo used to feast on the compensation picks.
  12. So we're not necessarily at the cliff?
  13. By the same token, a team that trades with us for Betts is going to have to pay him at close to a top free agent salary. So how much should they be willing to give up in prospect capital?
  14. Yes, you've been cleared. You're free to go.
  15. What's funny is that you said this at the time of the signing (I just bumped the thread): Very happy with this deal. Some TJ's turn out super. Some not so much. This one has looked to be positively bionic. A risk well worth taking IMO.
  16. Bump
  17. 4 * 17 is by no means TOR money, of course.
  18. But that's speculation too. Moncada was the centerpiece of that trade.
  19. If fans had their way, the best players would never have a day off until the team either clinches or is eliminated.
  20. It's natural for fans to think that way. I don't think GM's think that way when they're laying out $68 mill.
  21. The cold air makes arms more brittle.
  22. The hindsight jury - I like that one a lot. And they can be out for years sometimes.
  23. Yes, the innings totals tend to get knocked down by Tommy John surgery. He actually pitched 133.1 innings last year, if you would be so kind as to admit postseason innings as innings that should count.
  24. Not much of a comp. Showalter's mistake was waiting till he had a lead to use his closer.
  25. Eovaldi pitched pretty well last year in the regular season. He added a cutter to his repertoire and his K/BB ratio improved dramatically. There were reportedly a bunch of other teams interested in him. I get questioning the deal because of his health history. But the idea that they signed him strictly for his postseason is dumb.
