Two very different positions. And I'm of the opinion that DD wasn't fired because of a bad 2019 season. If he was, that would have been an overreaction, yes.

I can definitely see LeVangie being replaced.

It's certainly possible. But I really can't see them firing Cora. Look at this way: He's been manager two seasons. Season 1 was the best season in franchise history. Season 2 was s*****. Wouldn't you give another chance to someone who had two seasons like that? It's sort of like a player who has an MVP season in his rookie year and a nasty sophomore slump in his second. Cutting the guy loose would seem to be a bit of an overreaction.

A half-and-half approach to 2020 is not out of the question. Keep Betts. Pray for the health of Sale, Price and Eovaldi. Fill in the rest as necessary. If it all goes sideways, trade Mookie at the deadline and get some prospects back.

I don't think Remy and Eck are clowns either. I respect their opinions. I don't doubt that they saw some things this spring that didn't look right to them. And then the early results obviously tended to support the position that those things were a mistake. Now Remy and Eck played ball in the 70's and 80's and I think they probably have a lot of old school in their thinking. I wonder if they were also skeptical about Cora's 'rest philosophy' in 2018. Bottom line, I would love to talk to these two further about the whole thing, and about Cora as a manager. I wish we could get them on here, seriously. Not happening of course. I suspect that in spite of their issues with spring training, neither would be in favor of firing Cora. But I can't say for sure.

Yes, by emptying the farm which had been restocked. So the restocking had to take place first.

I also think the problems with the starting pitching would tend to create some malaise in the rest of the team. When you're constantly falling behind early in games, when you're seeing Sale and Porcello getting knocked around like we saw, it has to take some of the energy out of the rest of the team.

Slash, didn't you say something about the lackadaisical spring contributing to injuries? The Red Sox position players have actually stayed very healthy as a group. Meanwhile, the Yankees have had historical levels of injuries. Once again the facts tend to get in the way of a good story.

When the team isn't winning as many games as expected I think it's natural to start 'reading between the lines' of what's going on. Personally I believe if the 2019 starting pitching was anywhere near expectations, we wouldn't be having these discussions.

I agree with this too, except I don't think it was much about depleting the farm, because Henry would have expected that - more about not being the right guy to rebuild the farm.

Trout needs foot surgery and is done for the year. I certainly hope it's nothing that hampers him in the future. But it's another quick reminder of the massive risk in long term big money deals.

The luxury tax rules in the current CBA were actually pretty well designed to be a little scary. If you go absolutely nuts with the spending, you're going to be paying tax of almost 100%. Nobody really wants to pay double for anything.
