    Chipper Jones did not have a season below 2.3 bWAR in his whole career! And a bWAR of 2.8 at age 40. That's pretty amazing.

    Some might argue it's better to risk a burdensome contract than to risk having to watch the next best thing to Willie Mays star for another team for 7-8 years. After all, we always manage to survive the burdensome contracts, and even win titles while carrying them.

    I think that might be a bit of an overstatement. I think 700hitter probably did a few eye rolls when people said they were hoping he'd opt out.

    If you're dreaming big on Mookie, you're dreaming he's the next best thing to Willie Mays, who performed as if in his prime until around age 35.

    I think we're in a no-win situation with Mookie. Losing him will hurt on the field and keeping him will hurt in the long-term cost.

    The Price signing has been iffy, and yet there have been far worse signings, crazy as that is.

    Sure, $30 million is a lot of money if you spend it wisely - and luckily. It could get you a Max Scherzer. Or it could get you a Pablo/Ellsbury-type albatross or two.

    The team and the fan base 'survived' the loss of Lynn, Fisk and others, but the first half of the 80's was incredibly dismal as a result.

    If Texas would take Price and his salary for a prospect you just do it. The part about taking Martinez is dumb, which is not a big surprise.

    Unfortunately the price tag has reached the point that you just can't win. It would make plenty of sense to sign Mookie to a 6 year contract. But when it has to be a 12 year contract, it doesn't really make sense.

    Pretty much everyone on the coaching staff and team had to know what was going on. I guess what they'll really be looking at is who 'masterminded' it.

    But in reality great players like Mookie Betts are rare. And even acquiring Mookie involved blind luck, considering it was in the 5th round.

    One problem with the sign stealing evidence: Houston's 2017 home/away splits. Home .812 OPS 395 runs Away .834 OPS 501 runs 2019 was a much different story.

    Use RAR per game, and multiply by 100 to get rid of the decimal points. Just have to think outside the box a little.
