  1. Team options? Forget it. Player options would be much more likely.
  2. You left out the Hall of Famers, Rice and Boggs. And I don't think Mookie's going to surpass Trout's deal.
  3. Since 2013 the Gold Glove award process has specifically incorporated the use of Sabrmetric data provided to managers and coaches. MLB recognized that the previous system was flawed and took some action.
  4. The real point is the 6 to 19 games out of 162.
  5. The experts you're referring to are the managers and coaches of opposing teams, who would have seen the players in live action for 6 to 19 games out of 162. So the process itself was something of a joke.
  6. Well, here's an article that sheds some light on the topic. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=31&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiEoPD29N_lAhVknuAKHSyoA1gQFjAeegQIAhAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fgrantland.com%2Ffeatures%2Fthe-tragedy-derek-jeter-defense%2F&usg=AOvVaw20m4XHKrodGvUAQocXnsIp Key line: According to two historical play-by-play-based systems, Baseball Prospectus’s Fielding Runs Above Average and Baseball-Reference’s Total Zone, Jeter has cost his team more in the field than any other player in history, with both methods assessing the damage at 230 to 260 runs.
  7. The Red Sox have reached deals with six of their minor league free agents: righthanded relievers Austin Maddox, Domingo Tapia, and Andrew Schwaab, lefthanded starter Daniel McGrath, catcher Jhon Nunez, and infielder Jantzen Witte. Glad to see Maddox there, he showed nice potential in 2017 before getting injured.
  8. Jeter was as sure-handed as they come. But his range declined to the point that he covered very little ground out there.
  9. In 2018 you guys were hurting in the outfield. Shane Robinson played 25 games. You made a deadline trade for McCutcheon.
  10. He wasn't entirely healthy for 2018. Yes, he played 158 games, but 86 of those were at DH. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was because of some issues with his legs.
  11. Let's add Salazar, Buchholz and Hill. They can make a movie based on our rotation called Sore and Sorer.
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in most cases it's a change to an 'easier' defensive position.
  13. Devers UZR/150: 2017 -11.5 2018 -5.2 2019 +2.4 2019 Fielding Bible award winner Matt Chapman had a UZR/150 of +12.0. Devers may never reach that level, but given his age and rate of improvement, it's not unreasonable to think he could become one of the best.
  14. Devers has worked his ass off to improve at third and it has paid off hugely. If he keeps working at it he might become one of the best defensive third baseman in baseball.
  15. I didn't even realize this until looking it up, but when the Yanks traded Chapman to the Cubs in July/16, they not only got Gleyber Torres, but Adam Warren and Billy McKinney (who was later traded to the Jays in the deal for J A Happ) and another player. And we talk about what DD gave up for Kimbrel! I'll take that half-measure any day.
  16. That's going to happen some years. The Rays have done a great job turning low payroll into good players. But I'll still take the 4 titles to their goose egg any time...
  17. I'm fine with being a Budgie. It's definitely a thing now. It just amazes me that Spotrac and Roster Resource are using blatantly wrong AAV numbers, and yet are being quoted. Meanwhile Cot's Contracts numbers seem consistently bang on.
  18. You're really painting with a broad brush this morning. I think there have been a few successful platoons in history. Moreland and Pearce were a nice platoon in 2018, and would have been this year if not for that stupid injury thing.
  19. Come on, man. That was a great line in Breaking Bad, but it doesn't really apply here. Seems to me the Yankees' half-measure with Chapman in 2016 worked out perfectly for them.
  20. Erroneous numbers again. Drives me nuts. Just for one quick example, they've got Sale's 2020 AAV at 29 mill when it should be 25.6 mill. Why they don't use the far superior Cot's Contracts I don't know.
  21. No, it suggested we might trade for Marisnick separately.
