  1. So in the 2017 World Series video, there's a clip of Astro players coming off the field after a win in Houston, and the clip shows what clearly appears to be the cheating 'work station' just off the dugout in the area leading to the locker room, with a desk, monitor, trash can, the works. You can't make this stuff up.
  2. I'm not exonerating DD for Sale, Price and Eovaldi. I'm just saying that JH could clearly see what was coming with Mookie and our payroll situation. Now it's up to him to make the call one way or the other and whether the price for Mookie is too high or not. And in my opinion that decision is not affected by the money on the books for SPE. It's a bigger and longer-lasting decision than that. It's a decision that could be felt for a decade.
  3. You can pin it on DD if you want, but Henry hired DD, approved all those deals and knew this was coming with Mookie. So I'm sticking with JH as the man to point the finger at.
  4. Do you see an opt-out in there Swami?
  5. Ben was GM for 4 drafts wasn't he?
  6. I think if we lose Mookie, it won't be because of DD. It will be because his asking price is deemed too high by JH & Bloom, or because he wants to play elsewhere.
  7. Agreed. What I'm really saying there is 'Thanks Dave!'
  8. It might also be noted that we had zero depth in the outfield, as was painfully highlighted by the recurring sight of Gorkys in the lineup.
  9. I'm including Henry. He makes his money off the fans, and this will be palatable to most fans.
  10. The stats suggest his fielding was close to adequate in 2018. That helps explain why it wasn't considered going into 2019. In 2019 he was bad.
  11. Keep Mookie for 2020 with the intention that we can trade him at the deadline if circumstances warrant it. To me that's the plan that will come closest to pleasing everyone.
  12. It's still 19.4 million * 2, though.
  13. Trading him and then trying to re-sign is certainly an option, but it sure is an icky one.
  14. JD's opt out date is right after the season ends though.
  15. Sure, but the odds of that happening so soon are not great.
  16. AGon was not popular. Most of that 2012 team was not very popular, after the 2011 collapse and in the midst of a crappy season with a clown manager.
  17. If you're going to trade a player like Mookie, though, there has to be a great reason for doing so. Cutting payroll to save luxury tax is not a great reason for Mr. Average Fan.
  18. That's true, but he was also in the process of rapidly destroying his popularity with the mystery injury, sitting out the infamous loss to the Yanks etc. in the midst of an obviously crucial season for the team.
  19. Yes, he's slightly below average height. Big deal. His weight is listed as 180. He smokes the ball and he can throw a ball 300 feet. He's got physical strength to spare for the game of baseball.
  20. None of these guys were popular at the time of the trade. Not sure what this has to do with Betts, though.
  21. I think most Red Sox fans realize that it was the pitching that doomed this year's team, and it will be pitching that largely determines the fate of the 2020 team. I think that's completely separate from the Betts issue. He is a guy that a lot of Sox fans would like to see still in the uniform 7-8 years from now. Those fans are not just thinking about 2019 or 2020.
  22. Mookie Betts is not a 'small guy'. He's an insanely good all-around athlete. He bowls 300 games. He throws 305-foot strikes from right field.
  23. Yes like you. I think you may have used more colorful terms than 'hoping', too.
  24. Chipper Jones did not have a season below 2.3 bWAR in his whole career! And a bWAR of 2.8 at age 40. That's pretty amazing.
  25. Chipper's on the list, Kimmi.
