  1. I think you're right, and the current cheating scandal was pretty much a natural consequence of that mentality, plus the easy access to live video. I think Manfred and MLB made a huge blunder not seeing this coming.
  2. I'm not sure why you're opposed to managers being allowed to request a review altogether.
  3. Now it's reached a peak. -It started with Henry making the statement about cutting payroll. -We're all waiting for some big trade to happen, but nothing happens. -Our new guy has no money to work with and has signed only the Thriller P's. -The Houston cheating scandal reaches its day of decision and we read in horror that our manager is outed as a key player. He is soon our ex-manager. -The Boston cheating investigation drags on and on with no resolution. We've heard J D Martinez swear innocence, but there seems to be statistical evidence against us. We might be getting whacked like Houston did. -We still don't have a new manager. -The most exciting development is that Mookie Betts might be getting traded.
  4. Well, I'd say this is now officially the offseason from hell.
  5. You can also take away the video and keep the current system in place except managers have to use the naked eye, just like the umps. I think that's a sensible compromise.
  6. The only good thing is that the AAV for tax purposes is a lot less than that.
  7. After the Yankees scored 29 runs off Sox pitching in 2 games in London, the main thing Cora talked about was how valuable Beltran was. That raised eyebrows even at the time. Beltran was clearly one of the architects in the Houston scheme. The Yankees hired him as a special adviser. In 2019 their offense had an amazing year despite all the injuries. It's not just grasping at straws.
  8. This thing could easily go down the same path as steroids, with congressional hearings, testimonies under oath. There's some chatter about that already.
  9. The checkbook has been in the safe since the Eovaldi signing. Unless you included the extensions for Sale and Bogey, which we probably should...
  10. Maybe Carlos Beltran will write a book exposing it all, like Canseco...
  11. Whatever you think about the guy, does he really strike you as the type who would rather not play than play?
  12. It's the time of year for hope though.
  13. Some buzz that the Sox may be close to re-signing Moreland - for substantially less than his previous salary.
  14. Pretty hard to argue with that point.
  15. Still a lot better than not making the start.
  16. I would bet heavy that Price makes his first start, but I wouldn't bet much on the QS.
  17. Add this: 2018 Yankees Bases empty .776 Men on base .787 (11 points higher) Now I really smell smoke.
  18. Starting point: 2019 Yankees Bases empty .788 Men on base .884 (96 points higher) MLB average Bases empty .738 Men on base .784 (46 points higher) Is there smoke there? Don't forget all the surprisingly good seasons from former no-names.
  19. Can we do one for the Yankees for 2019 to see how much Beltran helped them?
  20. The reports are that other teams are reluctant to give up elite prospects for Mookie, which is understandable, because the other team only gets him for 1 year and has to pay him 27 million.
  21. You're asking the wrong guy, I'm afraid. I don't know jack about other team's prospects.
  22. In that case I'm rendered speechless.
  23. That's been done. I'd expect something more original.
  24. Me too. Maybe our new front office really thinks they can pull the wool over everyone's eyes.
  25. That doesn't make sense. Has to be more to it than that.
