  1. The can of worms I was referring to was actually the RBI thing.
  2. Probably so. I think I'm trying to make moon feel a little better, because I'm already worried moon's brain is going to melt a little each time he sees Devers at third.
  3. For all we know there are other teams interested in trading for Yoshida but want to see if he's healthy first.
  4. notin may not be wrong when he predicts Bregman starts at 2B but doesn't end there. I'm interested to see how it shakes out. At the moment, I'm happy with the move and I'm confident that Breslow and Cora have thought this out. They've probably known for at least 2 months that this was a real possibility.
  5. Sample size isn't everything. Bregman has the body and skill set to be a good middle infielder. Some guys can play multiple infield positions. Jose Iglesias for example.
  6. Vegas, the true experts, have bumped the Red Sox over/under from 84.5 to 86.5.
  7. “He should be OK,” Cora said of Bregman shifting to second. “We actually had that conversation [about playing second] in ‘17. We made some adjustments at third base. Where he was playing, he was feeling uncomfortable. At the end, it paid off for him." “He’s a Gold Glover defender at third. But I always envisioned him playing in the middle of the diamond. He can adjust. He has the baseball IQ to do that. People might think the double play might be an issue, but I don’t think so. I think he can do whatever.”
  8. The fact that Cora thinks Bregman can play 2B well means nothing?
  9. As far as the opt-outs go, when you look at the other offers he declined and the deferrals he agreed to and so on, it sure looks like Bregman REALLY wanted to play in Boston, which is kind of nice for a change, no?
  10. Except it's not really $120 million, it's more like $95 million because of the deferrals.
  11. Yeah, lots of differences. O'Neill was second in OPS. Most of it came from crushing lefties. I just thought they needed to get another bat, basically. And they did.
  12. Yeah, I think all hits and all walks are good. Grand slams by Red Sox hitters are beautiful things, but as you say they don't happen unless 3 guys get on base for you.
  13. I think we've made too much of the splits stuff. O'Neill was 3rd on the team in offensive WAR, that was my main beef about losing and not replacing him.
  14. Based on our collection of choice rumors, Cora was kind of leading the charge to sign Bregman and also to have him move to 2B. That would seem to make him one of the designers/shoppers in this case.
  15. Yeah, I was kind of surprised anyone wanted to open this delicious can of worms again, but here we are. 😄
  16. Yes, I'm wondering if the quest for max effort and max velocity in all things will result in more injuries of this kind to hitters. I'm wondering if Devers's shoulder issues may also be a result of how hard he swings.
  17. RBIs are a product of luck, no? Shall we dig up those Hunter Renfroe posts, the ones where we chuckled at Red for making so much of the 96 RBIs in 2021 on, you guessed it, 31 HRs?
  18. Sometimes have to agree with the old schoolers like D. Galehouse that baseball has gotten WAY too analytical. I mean, the Sox just acquired an excellent ballplayer and finally proved they really are serious about competing, and yet there are a lot of negatory comments (and not just here) about the deal, mostly because of roster fit and analytics stuff.
  19. Are you calling him a chocker with men on base?
  20. He did step up to the plate 421 times last year, 7th most on the team. It's not like he was totally buried.
  21. Kind of glad I made an optimistic prediction here now. I certainly came to doubt it since then LOL.
  22. There is no "crowd", IMO. I think we all speak our own minds here. Being labelled as part of a "crowd" is kind of insulting.
  23. I think there must be a plan already in place. I mean, this signing comes as a surprise to us, but it's been a real possibility for the team for quite a while now.
  24. I think most Talksox posters were unhappy about the spending before this. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!
  25. Weren't you in that crowd?
