  1. Hey, that's what i've been saying about Ortiz all offseason. That production ain't easy to replace.
  2. I'll be a happy camper if the Red Sox get an SP. Also, interesting note: Mike Aviles has a lifetime .288 BA, so how come we don't have a SS who can hit above .250?
  3. I can't wait for the games to start. Gods, gimme baseball PLEASE.
  4. Ben Cherington: General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. seabeachfred: Reactionary poster at Talksox. When it comes to baseball acumen, i would wager my house on option number one.
  5. You do know that Wheeler is smack-dab in the middle of his decline phase? I don't buy his awesomeness and solidness if he's getting a minor-league deal from the Guardians.
  6. We can agree to disagree here. I think that Wheeler is not that good anymore, but i could be wrong. Him getting a minor-leage deal tells me he's not held in high regard anymore. But i could be wrong obviously.
  7. That seems to be a pretty foreign concept to you given the concept of the discussion. Objectively, Wheeler is not that good. He got a minor league contract, and if the Sox sign an SP (and we should assume they will), then the Sox would have one more BP spot because one of Aceves/Bard would go back to the 'pen. Now, if they don't sign an SP, i will be the first to admit they should have gotten another BP arm. Do you give that spot to an aging Wheeler or a young, farm guy like Wilson? Be objective here.
  8. "Could" being the operative word here. If signing Wheeler was going to block Alex Wilson from getting a shot on the 2012 BP, then f*** him. Enough with the FA bullpen busts.
  9. Still a garbage-innings pitcher. He signed a minor league deal for a reason. If he's so good, why didn't he get major league contract?
  10. So it would have been better to get Sergio Santos than Bailey? And Wheeler? He pitched garbage innings to a 4.38 ERA. Worst mistake? GTFO
  11. Unless it's a base salary of 5 million and a bunch of incentives which Oswalt doesn't want to deal with. But as a700 said, what do we know, because we do not run the ballclub and do not know the specifications of the offer.
  12. Fred, if you are so discontent because of the cheapness of the FO in trotting out a 178 million dollar ballclub, you always have the choice of becoming a Yankees fan. They always spend.
  13. Hey, that would break your low-carb diet wouldn't it?
  14. This is downright absurd. Scutaro is significantly better than Theriot. It's not even a discussion.
  15. Theriot has significantly declined over the past couple of years, he has no power, and he's a minus defender. Career numbers are irrelevant when trends contradict them: Marco Scutaro last three years: .761 OPS, 102 OPS+ Ryan Theriot last three years:.673 OPS, 76 OPS+
  16. Scutaro has more power. better OBP, and is treated better by every possible defensive measure than Theriot. Scutaro is head and shoulders better than Theriot. No need to rationalize it. Saying otherwise is simply inaccurate.
  17. Again with the oddmakers, who fail on a yearly basis.
