  1. The problem is, that regurgitating the same thing over and over again doesn't make it any less or more true. And also, trying to rate an incomplete team is an exercise in futility. They could still get another starter via trade or signing, and even if they don't, they could use the money left over from the Scutaro trade to acquire a pitcher during the season. Plenty of options left.
  2. X Over 9000
  3. This is (and this is a recurring theme) an exaggeration. What i've said, and accurately so, is that until the roster is actually completed, trying to judge it is an exercise in futility. That's a simple concept. It's not rocket science.
  4. Neither Oswalt nor Jackson have signed. Until they do, they are still a possibility.
  5. My take of it has been that the more they win , the more money they make. Championship=money=championship driven.
  6. That doesn't matter!!! All he needs to do is "Strongly request" more money and JH automatically opens the wallet!!!!
  7. You seem to not comprehend the extent to which the existence of the entity known as "Larry Lucchino" influences the Red Sox and their actions.
  8. What i don't understand is the mixed signals being sent. On one hand, it seems apparent they're trying to shed payroll, on the other, Cherington says there's no "hard line" from ownership to stay under the cap. It makes no sense.
  9. Because of the situation in which Cherington took the job, it's impossible to know. Which is the point of calling any interpretation on his methodology/character follish at best.
  10. If the Sox trade for/sign a good SP, this thread is going to be so delicious to read. So easy being an armchair GM.
  11. Conveniently left Melancon, Valentine, medical team and conditioning team off the list. Sweet!
  12. ^ New favorite poster.
  13. Thank God, because Ryan Theriot sucks.
  14. Wait, his last name is actually Smackabitch?
  15. I bet when those same beat writers praise the Sox, they are "polyannas". Par for the course.
  16. You're maiking this up. Period. It was a comment made by a writer, disproved by Valentine and Cherington, and has never been mentioned by anyone even remotely close to the Red Sox again, except for the pundits at Talksox. Who do i trust? Did you take the time to look at next year's FA crop? It's not just Cain and Hamels. Even without those two, it's better than this year. First, how do you know i've never coached or scouted? You don't know me.Don't make s*** up. Also, you're missing the point. He can hit now, but he's more valuable as a catcher, and he's not ready so they'll give him enough reps in the minors for him to be the team's catcher. That couldn't happen if he was DH'ing in the Majors. Use common sense man. Every scouting report i've read and every beat writer comes to the same conclusion about Lavarnway: "Ready to hit in the Majors but needs more refinement defensively". So the Boston Red Sox, and every scout and beat writer in the universe agrees with letting him improve defensively, but you say no. I'll trust the people who know what they're talking about, thank you. Here's the thing: You're a very bad judge of character. I don't need to prove anything to anyone on the internet. But i will tell you this. You have no clue what you're talking about when you make those assumptions. Nice try, but wrong. Also, about Cherington, that is honestly a load of baseless conjecture.
  17. All of those guys make league minimum brah.
  18. I'll give you this one. But how do you replace his production? Neither of them are invited to ST. You keep harping on this point although it has been proven false by both Cherington and Valentine who actually work for the Red Sox. Move on. This is conjecture until the pitching situation has resolved itself. Also, why would you tie yourself long-term to an inferior pitcher when a great crop of SP will be FA next year? Bad idea. Wrong on this too. They view Lavarnway as a C, where he has the most value. It's easy to find a DH who can hit, but hard to find a catcher who can. Your "coaching and scouting experience" are so wrong about this it's not even funny. How do you know he didn't? You don't know the internal workings of the Sox. This is speculation at best. Cherington 4, Fred 1. I keep my house, yay!
  19. Excuse me? He had an awful year in Boston, and he was going to cost, as you put it..."2 or 3 million". With the way the Red Sox have handled their finances this off-season, how is it surprising that they chose not to bring back a guy who cannot get lefties out? Also, you don't know if he didn't want to come back to Boston. After last year's clusterf***, that's certainly a possibility. Don't talk like, at 34 years old and coming off a down year, Wheeler is a certain investment. THAT is a weak argument.
  20. I mean for this season. Next season, Buh-bye Papi, hello Lavarnway!
