  1. In the end, they hurt themselves by not scoring a single run with the bases loaded and nobody out. They were bound to lose a battle of attrition since they only got 2/3 of an IP from the starter.
  2. They have a very accurate system recording every pitch, every hit ball, etc etc etc. It's the same system they use for Gameday, and for UZR calculations. There's some standard deviation, but it's as accurate as you're going to get.
  3. You can literally choose a pitch type and check the heat chart: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/profile.php?player=519144&time=month&minmax=ci&var=count&s_type=2&endDate=04/19/2016&startDate=04/06/2016
  4. Great inning by Taz
  5. You are not correct though. Check pitch/fx. The sinker is down in the zone. He is conciously working the middle and high quadrant of the strike zone with breaking balls, changeups and four seamers. It is a difference in approach.
  6. Jesus, Smyly is channeling his inner Koufax tonight, goddamn.
  7. Results is the point. I need to see results from his approach over a larger sample. He's clearly not as bad this year as he was the first half of last year.
  8. SCM33, he barely posts anymore.
  9. What is "#2 arsenal?" Because Lackey's been pitching like a #2 for the last four seasons with diminished stuff. Porcello's problem isn't stuff, like his 2014 can attest to, it's whatever they changed with his approach. He's a sinker guy looking for K's.
  10. Decent inning from RR. Hopefully he can pitch at least three.
  11. Hoopefully Tampa makes him look good tonight.
  12. The only other guy they have is Leon, and he just can't hit.
  13. Good outing by Hembree. Then again, Tampa sucks floppy donkey dick.
  14. Kelly supposedly has a shoulder impringment. That is a recurring problem for him.
  15. Of course it''s unfair. He just doesn't have a ton of reps at catcher, and that's a position that needs a ton of work in order to learn the finer points of playing at the mlb level. He came up last year because of an emergency, and started the season in the big club waiting out Vasquez' recovery. That is what it boils down to: Kid's not ready.
  16. Are the Red Sox serious with this ********?
  17. There's not enough of a sample for stats to indicate anything about his performance as a catcher. I don't know if you're trying to discredit stats by being sly, or you're not familiar with the concept of sample size impact on all viable defensive statistics (which aren't very good at measuring catcher defense, but I digress). However, some guys who have forgotten more baseball than you and I will ever know (starting by Jason Varitek) think that he has a floor of serviceable and a ceiling of great defensive catcher. I think he knows what he's talking about.
  18. Longoria owns the Red Sox hard.
  19. As a pitcher, I just wouldn't work the main Toronto guys (Donaldson, Bautista, Encarnacion who punished him hard and Tulo) middle in. He did with wildly different results in both starts.
  20. For some reason, Porcello's approach has changed. Check out his pitch/FX and you'll see lots of work in the upper/middle parts of the plate with a variety of pitches. He's still sinker-dominant, but doesn't work in the lower quadrant of the strike zone as much as he used to. Like last year, K's are up, but so are HR's allowed.
  21. What you're saying is that you shouldn't use past performance to predict future performance? Because if that's how things work, let's throw stats out the window and make up the performance expectancy for players based on how awesome their beards are or how cool their nicknames sound.
  22. There's a big difference between "he gives up a lot of homers" and "he's trash".
