    Sad news, but that's life, isn't it? Tek will be a Red Sox legend for all time, he was the anchor of the ball club throughout an incredible period in the club's history, all the wild ups and downs. He was a no nonsense, lunchpail type of player, a modest guy, and when at his best, one of the finest to play his position. Tip of the hat to Jason Varitek, he will be missed. Time marches on....

    So long, Timmy. A great servant to the Red Sox over the years, he exceeded all expectations, he was great in the community, and a humble guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. He truly loved the Red Sox. His "Me Me Me" routine last year takes a bit of the shine off him for me, but I''l overlook it. He was a unwanted nobody when we signed him, and now he goes out as one of the all time Boston pitching greats. Not too shabby. Good luck to you, Tim.

    He'll sell Liverpool before he sells The Red Sox. He's getting a nice dose of the harsh reality of owning a Premier League soccer club in England. Major drama at that club this season too. He can't escape it!

    Ultimately, it's a matter of when, not if. Fenway won't stand forever. So with that in mind, it is imperative that they get the new ballpark right, from the location, to the design, to the name. As I mentioned before, the worst thing they could do would be to build a replica of Fenway Park and name it Fenway Park. It would do a disservice to the legacy and memory of the original. They should build an entirely different ballpark (while keeping it in a retro stye). No Green Monster, etc., just a whole new ballpark, with a new name. Imagine a waterfront location with the skyline as a backdrop? A Brave New World, indeed. That said, I'm all for getting every last game we can out of Fenway. I love it, warts and all.

    It's a good trade. MM is young, talented, and has huge upside, and I think we've seen the best of Jed. We needed pitching, we got some.

    I can't remember a Red Sox team as disliked by it's own fans as this one is right now. Bobby V is a focused, upbeat guy, and I think he'll do well whipping these hammerheads into shape.

    Ordway is saying there are OTR quotes from more than one player expressing unhappiness with Valentine being hired....also that some players were told by Front Office Types that Valentine would NOT be hired..... Let the fun begin

    It's a shame it's come down to these two re-treads. That said, if it's got to be one or the other, I'll throw my hat in with Bobby V. You know he still has fire in the belly and won't take any s*** from any of the prima donnas, whereas Lamont is kind of a mellow old dude who won't want to get too bothered about the jackassery that the players might try to get away with. My money is on Valentine for 3 years with an option. It's Larry's team after all now, isn't it?
