  1. Another slick trade by Cherington. I bet it's Lucky Larry behind the Jon Lester fiasco. Cherington would have wrapped him up months ago. Larry has to flex his muscles once a year to remind people he still has power.
  2. Why? If fans want to clap and cheer for Derek Jeter, then they can knock themselves out. I just don't want the brass to bring out a marching band and a bunch of Little Leaguers blowing bubbles into the air while "New York, New York" gets played over the PA system.
  3. He's gone, that much seems pretty clear. But if they know they're not going to sign him, and they know they don't have the talent to win anything this year, why not trade him now and get something in return?
  4. If it turns into a sappy Charles Steinberg/Tom Werner production with unicorns and tickling contests, I'm going to vomit. Mariano Rivera was a one-off in my opinion, he won us over with his personality. Jeter doesn't have a personality other than acting smug and posing for the cameras. I really hope Red Sox fans don't fall for Tom Werner's psych-ops and collectively wet their pants because it's Derek Jeter's "Big Farewell". Great player, big deal. All this love-in stuff is way over the top. He's a Yankee. I hate the Yankees. Derek Jeter can kiss my ass.
  5. Still waiting for the two stripes on home uniforms, like the ones worn in yesteryear.
  6. Thanks, Fred. Yeah, in many ways, 2003 should have been the year we won it all. The 2003 season was so much fun, had so many come from behind wins, incredible drama and individual performances. (Mueller hitting 2 salamis from both sides of the plate in one game!) I also watched more games on TV that year than ever before, so I think my emotional investment was heightened. I managed to get to Fenway a few times, as well. 2003 was the year. So close, eh?
  7. I was at Game 7. Box seats behind visitors dugout. I was 15, and my buddy's father scored 4 tickets, and gave them all to us kids. It was magical. I was old enough to fully appreciate what I was seeing, but young enough not to be jaded and cynical about the realities of pro sports. They were my heroes. Great times, fun season. That was when the back page of the sports section was like the Bible. A must read. Clemens, Hurst, Oil Can, Nipper. Of course, the Hendo homer in California was epic. Good memories all around. Until...
  8. Wouldn't mind seeing HR's as a category. You could balance it out with K:BB Ratio
  9. If there's already a resident fantasy commish, I'll defer to him. I'll check back here in a couple of weeks, and if he's not started one, I will. Is it a Head to Head league you guys do?
  10. Hi guys, if anyone is interested in joining a league, let me know on this thread, and if we get enough managers, I'll form a league. Also, tell me if you prefer Head to Head or Roto.
  11. That's true, I didn't factor in if players would actually want to live there. Puerto Rico has it's upper middle class neighborhoods, but still. There is a reason so many of them live here now. Pipe dream remains pipe dream...:dunno:
  12. Hear me out- We all know how awful Toronto and Tampa baseball support is. Terrible fair weather fans at BEST. We all know how awful their stadiums are- A massive dome throwback with Astroturf, and whatever that thing is that Satan himself vomited up onto the streets of Tampa. The other AL East clubs suffer because of these pathetic ball clubs. MLB had two Canadian clubs for a while, so foreign inclusion has precedent. I suggest blowing up the Rays and Jays and moving them to the Caribbean- One in Santo Domingo, and one in San Juan. The Dominicans and Puerto Ricans would pack their ballparks every night, the passion would be immense. A flight to the D.R. and P.R. from Boston is shorter than any west coast flight. It would also be fun for traveling fans. The Marlins could move to the AL East, along with the P.R. team. The D.R. team could be in the NL East.
  13. Toronto doesn't make the playoffs
  14. No contracts over 5 years for anyone older than 29 Emphasize pitching, defense and speed Be smart and don't make desperation moves, ever.
  15. I want an entirely new manager/coaching setup with no ties to the club to take over. Anyone with the club right now as a coach should be shown the door too. Maybe now we can get the fresh start we were promised last year.
  16. Who do you think it will be? Maddox? Sciosca? Farrell?
  17. It would blow away the Dodgers deal. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's a Kraft-fronted group that's put it's feelers out
  18. A potential sale would make the recent salary dump make all the more sense. Where there is smoke...

  20. LUCCHINO OUT
  21. We brought Bailey in to be the closer. End of story.
  22. Spot on.
  23. I don't think trading away most of our top prospects/Ellsbury for an ace like Felix is the smartest move. We should be looking at guys like Zimmerman, Morrow, McCarthy, Kennedy, Shields...guys that we won't have to deplete all our prospects to get.
  24. Are you suggesting Valentine was the architect of the trade?
