  1. Here was the Front office meeting.: Guys we failed to land Soto but we still need to PRETEND to Try to make fans happy. OK, what do next? We could offer 200+ million for proven starting pitchers like Burnes or Fried. Spend money BAD. Do we have a cheaper answer? Yes sell off the farm and trade for Crochet. Oh yes, less spend is GOOD, we do that ONE! What about Burnes, Fried is gone. Oh we Pretend to go in for him too, the Fans are Suckers, they will buy our Act!
  2. Watch them offer an insulting deal to Burnes, shrug their shoulders and say, we tried. Considering Fried got 218/8, Burns will cost more. Anywhere from 225-250m is my guess at his final contract total. Red Sox don't have the balls to pony up. As we've seen again and again, they lowball and come back to the fans, Hey at least we tried! You either Piss in the pot or get off, stop teasing us with these lame leaks that lead to nowhere, Red Sox Front Office. Shameful. Full Throttle is such an Awful Joke now!
  3. Correct. Teel was ranked as one of the top 3 catching prospects in the 2020 draft. And the 25th overall prospect according to MLB.com rankings today. So he is projected to turn into a plus position player. Like I said how well Crochet pans out will be the measuring stick for the deal. If he's a top 3 rotation pitcher, nobody will bat an eyelash at the loss of Teel. Top 100 MLB.com rankings today:
  4. If Crochett turns into an innings eating top 3 of the rotation pitcher the deal is worth. Otherwise this will be seen as folly since catcher is one of our needs at the ML level and Teel was a good catching prospect.
  5. The Red Sox lack of urgency in Free Agency is disturbing to say the least. If they strike out on the remaining premier players, that just reinforces the idea that the Soto pursuit was a farce all along. They just wanted to put up a brave front and say, Alas we were outbid, knowing they'd never beat out the Mets. That's gonna be really sad if it turns out to be true. "This outcome was always a possibility for the Red Sox, but what is truly shocking is the lack of urgency and effort from the Boston front office. Since the beginning of the offseason, the Red Sox have been linked to Fried (and Blake Snell) much more than Corbin Burnes. Now Burnes is the only top-end starter that remains on the free agent market." Article: https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/red-sox-readying-offer-free-agent-ace-after-max-fried-picks-yankees-1998883
  6. First the Red Sox lose out on Soto to the Mets. Now they lose out on Max Fried to the Yankees. It makes you wonder if all the previous intent to spend was just posturing and we are going to again conveniently just 'miss out' on all the top tier free agents because they want too much money. As Mr Henry said, running a baseball team is expensive, you couldn't possibly expect them to spend a lot of money to improve.
  7. Who bets we falls short of all the other great free agents as well? Full Throttle is such a JOKE.
  8. Always the brides maid and never the bride. You just knew the Red Sox would come short on the money. Well back to misery again in Beantown. Soto on our team was a pleasant dream that went away quick.
  9. The numbers only sound big in the present. A few years from now this will be considered the normal price for a top tier free agent. Remember when 30m sounded a lot for a franchise player? That's not current economics anymore.
  10. I think at some point the Mets are bluffing. I very much doubt they will drop 780. And perhaps that's why they say they will pay 50m more because they know that's what they have to put up to beat the Red Sox considering the difference in state taxes and his team preference. If It gets close down to the wire, and we're in it, I'd go all the way up to 725/15 and see if the Mets blink. I don't believe they will go 775.
  11. Rumor has it Mets have put forth a 730m dollar offer to Soto. Considering the difference in tax rates, for the Sox to match they would have to offer 715m. Will Red Sox up their bid, or does the dream stop here? Or is this rumored Mets offer bogus with a lot of deferred money to make it sound better than it is? 12. I don't know how he arrived at these numbers, but according to this tweet we are now the favorites for landing Soto. Dude has 60k+ followers, so he's not exactly a nobody on Twitter. Hopefully this is true.
  13. 700m/15 years for Soto? Sounds about right. Boras is a hard negotiator. Soto was never going to be a cheap prize to land. Hopefully the ownership has OK'd this contract and he will be donning Red Sox uniform by the end of Winter Meetings.
  14. Story was a horrible signing. They didn't even vet his medicals. 160m dollars wasted on an injury prone "replacement" for Bogaerts. 93 games played, 43, and 26, have been his totals the past 3 years. Adding insult to injuries, his performance as a Red Sox player has been far worse than as a Rockie, proving that playing in the high altitude either inflated his numbers or he simply declined terribly as a player. .737, .566, and .733 OPS compared to his career average of .833. Trust Red Sox brain trust to think buying a broken JALOPY would be a good replacement for a proven all-star shortstop. Hey if it's 20 bucks cheaper, let's just BUY that one!
  15. A new article suggests that the Red Sox are now the frontrunners to land Soto with a 675m/15 year offer. This would be the second largest contract in baseball history and actually means more real money than the Ohtani deal because that 700m deal had a lot of deferred money. I would be super hyped if we landed Soto. The extra term also allows us to lower the cap hit to 45m per year. 16. I'm not saying they shouldn't try. It's a no-brainer to go after a generational talent like Soto hitting free agency in his prime. I'm saying there are still huge public perception problems if they fail to land Soto. The Red Sox ownership have literally been booed at Winter Meetings for making false promises of Full Throttle and also Henry's infamous statement of owning a baseball team is expensive. They need to land the Big Fish to repair their public image issues. Red Sox nation still remembers selling off Mookie Betts for a horrible return because they were too cheap to even try to keep him. The salt rubs in the wound even more when you consider he won TWO championships with the Dodgers after being traded away.
  17. If the Red Sox are left at the altar again not only is this monumentally embarrassing, what's even our Plan B? It's still going to be seen as a big L by the fans. That will not drive up ticket sales like the owners want.
  18. He's a decent lefty to have in the bullpen. And since it's a 1 year deal there's no long term cap impact. Feels like a small win.
  19. Teoscar is expected to return to LA Dodgers once Soto finds a home, unless that is Dodgers throw 700m at Soto and it's an offer he can't refuse.
  20. Anyone else scared the Mets will up their offer at the last minute to steal Soto away? I still feel the winning bid for Soto will end up around 650m. I don't think these are "final" offers.
  21. Mets offer is rumored to be 611m/13 years. Mets' Projected to Win Juan Soto Sweepstakes on This Massive Deal | Yardbarker This means the Red Sox offer, if it really is 625/13 is still better. This will end up being a where does he want to be more issue. Maybe the bonus check or the structuring is different? Hard to tell what will be the deciding factor. Hopefully the sister's house shopping is a clue he is serious about picking Boston.
  22. Red Sox signed a new pitcher. Justin Wilson from the Reds. The ERA and WHIP are terrible. I'm guessing this is a reclamation project on cheap money. The 37-year-old posted a 5.59 ERA, 1.456 WHIP and 9.8 K/9 in 60 appearances (46 2/3 innings) for Cincinnati in 2024.
  23. If this tweet is correct the Yankees offer isn't even close at 550m. Clearly you have to be north of 600 to even be taken seriously by the Soto camp. If I were Boston I'd tell Soto's agent to keep us updated on any new offers so we can match or go higher. It might take 650m to land Soto but it will be worth it.
  24. I've heard two different offer rumors 13/625 and 12/600. Either way The Red Sox are giving the term and the money, I just have a feeling if it gets into a bidding war it might just take 14/700 to get it done. Not sure if Red Sox will open the wallet all the way for that. This is all speculation of course. I have no idea what the other team offers are but I would imagine they are either in the ballpark of the Red Sox offer or will be upped in the upcoming days.
  25. Yoshida is a left handed bat who doesn't hit for enough power to balance out the fact that we are way too lefty leaning as a lineup. Yes he had surgery, but will that recover his power from his JP league days? Nobody knows. If we can dump his salary and get a right handed bat without giving up too much farm pieces, I'd explore that trade before the season starts.
