  1. Unfortunately I fear this will be the case.
  2. A realistic view is to start by climbing out of the basement. Of course we'd rather be hopeful than pessimistic after the Red Sox made a bunch of signings. So at least they're making overt efforts to improve. But when you add it all up, have we improved enough to be competitive with the Yankees? Or do you also chalk this up to yet another 'rebuild' year? Hard to say. Two important upgrades obtained - Closer, and a good hitting outfielder. No idea how we're replacing Bogey. Will someone from the farm system finally step up?
  3. No Idea. A poster on this forum or your typical Sunday Baseball column from a Boston journalist? I can see why somebody might see this move as a little risky because of the age of the player, but like I said pitchers tend to age better than position players in terms of maintaining performance.
  4. It wasn't that simple. We had to bring in Dombrowski to change a lot of things shortly after that. And not a lot of people liked what he gave up in 'prospects' and cap ramifications to get the Red Sox a ring. *shrugs* At least he got results. I think you're being intentionally facetious if you think just not paying GOOD players is going to bring championships back to Boston.
  5. It's relatively RARE to find good hitting at SS or C position. If those are our options, the bat upgrade would probably be had at Right Field. Will Yoshida be playing left field or right field?
  6. I'll never forget the blood sock game. Curt Schilling not only has the talent and the resume to be in the Hall of Fame, he has receipts from gutsy performances like that. HOF becomes way too political to get in at times. Curt Schilling must have enemies on the voters panel, but I think he'll eventually get in, it's not like he did something dumb you can stand on a soapbox against like gamble on baseball.
  7. Proven Closer obtained. Expensive but it's only for 2 years. Hard to see any downsides in this unless he falls off a cliff. But usually pitchers age better than position players. I mean look at Mariano Rivera. I'm not saying Jansen is on that level, but he should still be pretty good for at least 2 more years. Here's hoping!
  8. Those moves certainly led to us having a JOKE of an outfield last season. These moves now are attempts to retcon those mistakes. But the damage is already done. We can only hope this team can be good enough going forward. The last shoe is still to drop which is to see if the Red Sox management is STUPID enough to also let Devers walk.
  9. A 1 year offer to one of your TOP players? That's just stupid and insulting. Any GM worth his salt would KNOW that offer would be rejected out of hand.
  10. It feels like Jon Lester all over again. Drive away a top quality homegrown player with an insulting offer. Then he leaves later for much more money when if you had just offered a fair deal earlier, you could have locked him in long term and enjoyed a lot of success. Is this just the Red Sox MO now? Is this driven by ownership or the GMs? Really sketchy results regardless.
  11. We could have signed him for only 160/6? That's a no-brainer! *SMH* That would have been a LOT better deal than signing Story to 160/6 whose bat turns into a NOODLE once he leaves the friendly park factor of Coors fields.
  12. Not surprising. Bloom's fingerprints are all over this. He didn't want Bogaerts back, the Red Sox didn't even make a competitive offer.
  13. Signing Yoshida looks like a move in the right direction to fix one of the worst hitting outfields in baseball. He was one of the top bats in the JP leagues. Hopefully this works out!
  14. Get ready to say goodbye to all THREE of those if Bloom continues his usual MO. Let's keep DUMPING players who produce 9-10 WAR per season. It's been a real WINNING strategy so far, Mr. Bloom!! SMH
  15. Give Devers what it takes. He's clearly our best player right now. Or will the Red Sox dump yet another STAR homegrown talent for pennies on the dollars? Hey Bloom, why don't you trade a perennial all-star for a replacement level chump again? Sounds like Bloom's MO. He traded away Mookie Betts for Verdugo and a pupu platter of prospects who haven't panned out. Wow he's really smelling like roses with that move! What masterstroke will he come up next to DUMP more talent from the Red Sox? I wasn't aware a GM's goal should be to make a team end up with less talent than they started with when he first took over!
  16. Verdugo's numbers have declined for 3 straight years. He's barely above a replacement level outfielder. Red Sox have one of the worst OFs in all of baseball. Even if you try to polish a turd, it's still a turd. To top it off, he traded a +2.4 WAR OFer in Hunter Renfroe for a -.8 WAR player in JBJ. In fact it got so bad the Red Sox had to cut JBJ in the middle of the season. What genius moves will Bloom pull off next to keep the Red Sox in the AL East basement? Can't wait to see it!
  17. As expected, Bloom getting rid of homegrown talent again. They're not even gonna make a competitive offer for Bogaerts. Meanwhile we're supposed to settle for Trevor Story. That's a clear DOWNGRADE. Let's continue to watch Bloom run this franchise into the ground. But yup everything's fine, Bloom can do no wrong!
  18. Those who staunchly support Bloom, can I ask what has he accomplished that makes you so sure that he's making all the right moves? How many championships does he have on his resume? Were the Rays so special under his 'management' that you really feel the Red Sox should adopt that kind of model - try to be competitive while fielding low budget teams? It doesn't seem to suit a team that year after year carries a top 3 payroll. How far have the Red Sox progressed or regressed since Bloom took over in 2019? One could easily argue that the Red Sox have regressed overall, failing to make the playoffs and landing dead last in the AL East division race. Last but not least the big trades that Bloom has made have generally fallen flat and the Red Sox ended up losing them. Mookie Betts for Verdugo and prospects? Big LOSE. Hunter Renfroe for Jackie Bradley Jr.? Big LOSE. How about free agency acquisitions? Trevor Story for 140m dollars? Big LOSE and overpay! So tell me what exactly gives you faith that Chaim Bloom is still the right man for the job? He has shown a callous disregard for keeping clubhouse leaders and homegrown talent. Who will he show the door next? He already deleted Mookie Betts and Christian Vazquez. Who's next on his chopping block - Bogaerts or Devers? Will you still be singing his praises once he ships those guys out the door?!
  19. SWEPT by the Yankees and now pounded by the Orioles to the tune of 14 runs given up. I don't see how anyone can reasonably defend Bloom anymore at this point in time.
  20. The Red Sox were 92-70 in 2021, 22 games over .500 and belonged in the postseason. So why are they now 59-61? Answer Bloom DUMPED our talent and made our team worse all for the 'promise' of prospects. The roster in 2022 is subjectively WORSE than 2021 and Bloom is the architect of this disaster. And yet everyone wants to kiss his feet and hold him BLAMELESS for his own mistakes. Trading for Jackie Bradley Junior was a huge FLOP but it's just one of the most obvious warning flags of his INEPTITUDE as a GM. In the 3 years of Bloom's 'stewardship' nothing about his 'genius moves' inspires confidence. He has made the Red Sox progressively WORSE in 3 years in charge.
  21. I'm so glad Bloom got us pitching help at the deadline. Oh wait he didn't. Just got shelled 15-10 by the Orioles. It's not quite as bad as the record 28 run shellacking we took earlier in the year, but it's still pretty pathetic!
  22. Unlucky. But I wasn't counting on Sale to save the team either. Looks like we're missing the playoffs. I just hope there are consequences for failure. Getting tired of seeing the Red Sox lose.
  23. We just lost to the Royals, a team 20 games under .500 by a score of 13-7. And our starting CF is a career minor league 2nd baseman who is JUST starting to learn how to play CF. OOF. The blame has to go on Bloom for stockingpiling such a pathetic group of outfielders that we're forced to play a natural 2B in center field, the most important defensive outfield position. durran on being a noob to CF: https://nesn.com/2022/08/red-soxs-jarren-duran-comments-on-defensive-miscues-vs-royals/ No true center fielder added at the deadline. No bullpen help added at the deadline. And subtracted our starting catcher Vazquez to replace with a catcher known only for his public WANKING! The emperor, Chaim Bloom, has no clothes. Just nobody is willing to admit it yet.
  24. Alex Cora talks JBJ release, "Where we’re at roster-wise, we had to go in a different direction." Translation: we had to get the black hole out of our lineup even it it meant getting absolutely nothing back in return. Bravo Chaim Bloom! What a brilliant trade to give away a 30 homerun hitter for a guy you had to later DFA in the same season! Article: https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2022/08/boston-red-sox-release-jackie-bradley-jr-alex-cora-says-where-were-at-roster-wise-we-had-to-go-in-a-different-direction.html
  25. I'm not high on Groome or anything like that. I'm just wary that Bloom looks quite willing to ship off anyone he didn't handpick himself. As for why he traded for Hosmer - dirt cheap pricetag, San Diego literally wanted to get rid. Meanwhile the Red Sox suffered for 100+ games with no real 1st baseman with Franchy Cordero and Dalbec being disasters. It's just a case of too little too late and hardly deserves praise considering this does pretty much nothing for our chances to catch up in the division when we're already in the cellar looking up at the Yankees.
