  1. The rumor/speculation I'm hearing is massive offer from Red Sox for Ohtani. Basic gist Marcelo Mayer, Brayan Bello, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Triston Casas for Ohtani. If this deal gets done it would be massive and the Red Sox I think would have to agree a contract with Ohtani for a long term extension first. There's no way you commit that many resources to a guy who just walks at the end of the year. article here: https://clutchpoints.com/red-sox-perfect-shohei-ohtani-trade-boston-offer-angels-2023-deadline
  2. I just read that Red Sox could be sellers at the deadline and that Paxton could be moved. Sure, sell off the only good starting pitcher that we have? Makes sense when you're Bloom. It doesn't look like this team will get out of .500 and the basement this season. As long as we have crap front office, we'll continue to get crap results. This is a noncompetitive team right now. Zero chance at the postseason.
  3. The crazy thing about Wacha is he only got 4/26 from the Padres. That's an average of 6.5m per season. Wacha was one of the Red Sox best pitchers last year with an 11-2 record, 3.32 era, and 1.11 WHIP. This year Wacha is pretty much maintaining his numbers with a 3.48 era, and 1.14 WHIP. You can't seriously tell me that Wacha for 4/26 is a WORSE deal than Kluber for 1/10. A lot of head scratching moves by the Red Sox under Bloom who don't seem to understand that RE-SIGNING your own free agents is a valid option!
  4. Is this sarcasm? Kluber is currently sporting a 6.26 ERA and 1.536 WHIP. Red Sox are in the basement of the AL East again. Same as last year. Is anyone still defending Bloom and thinks he's still the right guy for the job?
  5. Bloom wanted to replace Bogaerts with a cheaper player in Story and overlooked the injury risks in his quest for cheapness. Now we're stuck without a starting shortstop and have to find a new one anyways either through free agency or trade.
  6. Bloom booed on stage as he tries to explain to Red Sox Nation why he traded Mookie Betts for Alex Verdugo and a bag of chips:
  7. Agreed. But incompetence is par for the course for this Red Sox organization under Bloom's watch. 160m dollars is going to waste. Looks a lot like the next Pablo Sandoval signing. Will we have to end up dumping talent just to get rid of his salary? Even if we put all of that to the side the question still remains - who's going to be our opening day Shortstop now?
  8. My only reaction is: RELIEF Finally we get to keep one of our top stars! He's entering his prime as well so that was a no-brainer deal. At least we got one move right going to the future.
  9. True. Corey Kluber was good... 4 years ago. A retread signing whom we hope can be the 4th or 5th starting pitcher. If he's in the top 3, we're probably in trouble.
  10. Unfortunately I fear this will be the case.
  11. A realistic view is to start by climbing out of the basement. Of course we'd rather be hopeful than pessimistic after the Red Sox made a bunch of signings. So at least they're making overt efforts to improve. But when you add it all up, have we improved enough to be competitive with the Yankees? Or do you also chalk this up to yet another 'rebuild' year? Hard to say. Two important upgrades obtained - Closer, and a good hitting outfielder. No idea how we're replacing Bogey. Will someone from the farm system finally step up?
  12. No Idea. A poster on this forum or your typical Sunday Baseball column from a Boston journalist? I can see why somebody might see this move as a little risky because of the age of the player, but like I said pitchers tend to age better than position players in terms of maintaining performance.
  13. It wasn't that simple. We had to bring in Dombrowski to change a lot of things shortly after that. And not a lot of people liked what he gave up in 'prospects' and cap ramifications to get the Red Sox a ring. *shrugs* At least he got results. I think you're being intentionally facetious if you think just not paying GOOD players is going to bring championships back to Boston.
  14. It's relatively RARE to find good hitting at SS or C position. If those are our options, the bat upgrade would probably be had at Right Field. Will Yoshida be playing left field or right field?
  15. I'll never forget the blood sock game. Curt Schilling not only has the talent and the resume to be in the Hall of Fame, he has receipts from gutsy performances like that. HOF becomes way too political to get in at times. Curt Schilling must have enemies on the voters panel, but I think he'll eventually get in, it's not like he did something dumb you can stand on a soapbox against like gamble on baseball.
  16. Proven Closer obtained. Expensive but it's only for 2 years. Hard to see any downsides in this unless he falls off a cliff. But usually pitchers age better than position players. I mean look at Mariano Rivera. I'm not saying Jansen is on that level, but he should still be pretty good for at least 2 more years. Here's hoping!
  17. Those moves certainly led to us having a JOKE of an outfield last season. These moves now are attempts to retcon those mistakes. But the damage is already done. We can only hope this team can be good enough going forward. The last shoe is still to drop which is to see if the Red Sox management is STUPID enough to also let Devers walk.
  18. A 1 year offer to one of your TOP players? That's just stupid and insulting. Any GM worth his salt would KNOW that offer would be rejected out of hand.
  19. It feels like Jon Lester all over again. Drive away a top quality homegrown player with an insulting offer. Then he leaves later for much more money when if you had just offered a fair deal earlier, you could have locked him in long term and enjoyed a lot of success. Is this just the Red Sox MO now? Is this driven by ownership or the GMs? Really sketchy results regardless.
  20. We could have signed him for only 160/6? That's a no-brainer! *SMH* That would have been a LOT better deal than signing Story to 160/6 whose bat turns into a NOODLE once he leaves the friendly park factor of Coors fields.
  21. Not surprising. Bloom's fingerprints are all over this. He didn't want Bogaerts back, the Red Sox didn't even make a competitive offer.
  22. Signing Yoshida looks like a move in the right direction to fix one of the worst hitting outfields in baseball. He was one of the top bats in the JP leagues. Hopefully this works out!
  23. Get ready to say goodbye to all THREE of those if Bloom continues his usual MO. Let's keep DUMPING players who produce 9-10 WAR per season. It's been a real WINNING strategy so far, Mr. Bloom!! SMH
  24. Give Devers what it takes. He's clearly our best player right now. Or will the Red Sox dump yet another STAR homegrown talent for pennies on the dollars? Hey Bloom, why don't you trade a perennial all-star for a replacement level chump again? Sounds like Bloom's MO. He traded away Mookie Betts for Verdugo and a pupu platter of prospects who haven't panned out. Wow he's really smelling like roses with that move! What masterstroke will he come up next to DUMP more talent from the Red Sox? I wasn't aware a GM's goal should be to make a team end up with less talent than they started with when he first took over!
  25. Verdugo's numbers have declined for 3 straight years. He's barely above a replacement level outfielder. Red Sox have one of the worst OFs in all of baseball. Even if you try to polish a turd, it's still a turd. To top it off, he traded a +2.4 WAR OFer in Hunter Renfroe for a -.8 WAR player in JBJ. In fact it got so bad the Red Sox had to cut JBJ in the middle of the season. What genius moves will Bloom pull off next to keep the Red Sox in the AL East basement? Can't wait to see it!
