  1. Our pen is top flight. And with so many great options in Papelbon, Bard, Alberts, Aceves and Wheeler there's no reason why anyone else would see important innings in the playoffs. It's not like we only have 2 solid relievers.
  2. Really? Our bullpen WAR is 3rd in baseball. Papelbon has a 3.59 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and has converted 23 of 24 save opportunities. Bard has a 1.81 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. Albers has a 2.09 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, Aceves has a 3.28 ERA and 1.16 WHIP (2.50 ERA as a reliever). Wheeler has an ERA of 1.93 and a WHIP of 0.86 since coming off he DL in May. Yet you're focused on Williams and Jenks?
  3. That is a historically good run differential.
  4. Over the last 30 years, only 13% of teams that won 100+ games went on to represent their league in the World Series. That is an indisputable fact. If we want to get to the World Series, we need to start losing games!
  5. That's such a difficult question because we have the best player in baseball this year at 1B, 2B and CF. I would go with Pedroia though because he's the only one that leads his position in both UZR and wOBA and 2B has been the weakest offensive position of the 3 this year.
  6. BTW Betances - 3.35 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.05 H/9, 4.29 BB/9, 10.41 K/9 Weiland - 3.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 7.30 H/9, 3.33 B/9, 8.67 K/9 *Weiland is 24 and his stats include A-AAA. Betances is 23 and his stats include Rk-AA.
  7. Makes sense. Betances is way more hyped up than Weiland.
  8. A few things to consider about a Jiminez deal. His fastball is down 2 mph this year and his slider is down 3 mph. His line drive rate is up about 2% from his career norm. He's giving up a hit more per 9 IP than his career average. Will Middlebrooks could eventually be the successor to Kevin Youkilis. I'm not saying that I wouldn't make the deal, but I don't think this is an easy call
  9. The latest from Cafardo.
  10. I get the feeling that Bedard is our favorite target. But if things fall through on that front, I imagine we'd give up Weiland and Middlebrooks for Jimenez.
  11. Angels picked up another half a game. They're now 5 games back with 6 head-to-head matchups against the Yankees remaining.
  12. Will Ellsbury, Chiang (.338/.398/.653) would be expendable and he has defensive concerns that would likely prevent him from being handed over a starting job on the Red Sox.
  13. I really like the idea of Ubaldo, but there's a possibility that he could come over here to the AL East and bomb. That should at least be considered.
  14. It also helps that many of the Yankees best prospects (Montero, Sanchez, Betances, Banuelos, Brackman, Romine) are struggling right now which may make them unappealing to Rockies scouts.
  15. One advantage we have in our farm system over the Yankees is that we have more major league ready players (Reddick, Lavarnway, Kalish, Doubront, Weiland, Navarro, etc.). The Yankees have some great prospects, but their pitching especially with the exception of Nova, is a year or two away.
  16. That would be very accurate this year. It likely has to do with the pitching matchups. The new style Josh Beckett is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA and 0.71 WHIP and Jon Lester has always pitched well against the Yankees.
  17. I wouldn't mind that one bit. We seem to match up very nicely with them.
