  1. It seems clear to everyone that he needs surgery... except for the Sox.
  2. Those splits are a month old. WMB has fallen off a cliff since. His career numbers do still show that trend however.
  3. Take 3 top prospects, and you usually get one star, one starter, and one dud. Mookie is looking like the star, and we're all hoping one of Xander/Bradley turns into a starter by the end of the season.
  4. Did we really skip three game threads this weekend? Clearly we've all moved on to football.
  5. He's been here for 2 years, 2000 posts, and hasn't gotten banned yet. Hmm.
  6. Nava has a .370 OBP against righties, and .385 for his career. He's an absolutely bonkers platoon option who will be practically free for several more years. He should never play against lefties again, and shouldn't play centerfield or Fenway RF, but he has his value.
  7. Who said that ? Gammons implied he was claimed.
  8. Buchholz is a buy low candidate for some team. He's a guy with ace stuff, and a very flexible contract. There are a whole lot of warts, but teams will go to great lengths to try to find a #1 pitcher. I am not saying he is, or has been a #1 pitcher at any point in his career, but we have seen flashes. Remember that just 14 months ago, this guy was having the best season of any pitcher in all of baseball. I would imagine some team is going to be willing to take the risk on his contract. Realize that in 2014, Josh Johnson was coming off a 6.20 ERA, and came away with a 8 million dollar contract this year. Johnson seems like a perfect comparison here. The Red Sox won't get prospects for Buchh, but they may be able to dump the contract -- there was some clamor over Buch being claimed off waivers.
  9. The Red Sox believe they will be contenders in 2015. Otherwise, they would have never traded Lester for a single year of Cespedes and signed Castillo to such an outrageous contract. The Red Sox will go from 70 million in payroll on starters in 2014 to 12 million in payroll on starters in 2015? I seriously doubt that. If they can get lucky and clear one of Craig/Buchholz/Victorino's salaries, this team is going to have big money available. We're talking 60-70 million here, if they want to add players. We will probably see two pitching acquisitions, plus some combination of Buchholz, RDLR, Kelly, Ranaudo next year.
  10. Victorino is the kind of player who helps a team win in many different ways. He steals bases, has plenty of outfield range, has a good arm, gets on base, has a bunch of extra base hits. Until this year, he has averaged 130-140 games a season. He also has world series rings from two different teams. Honestly, I want him back next year. If he's not healthy enough to play every day, he'd be an incredible bench player. Need a pinch runner? Throw him in. Need a platoon option with a career .875 OPS split against lefties? Let him start. Need a defensive replacement? Absolutely.
  11. In 2013, the Red Sox brought in Farrell because of the familiarity with the team and pitching staff. Bard burned out, Buchholz is terrible, and everyone else is brand new. I would believe that Farrell's future belongs in the hands of Jon Lester. If they fire Farrell, Lester is not coming back.
  12. What was the Red Sox's biggest need this season? The outfield. What did the Red Sox address? The outfield, with three big name acquisitions at respectable value. What is the Red Sox's biggest need this offseason? What do you think they're going to address this offseason? We'll see a much better team next year.
  13. He's a firey guy. I seriously doubt he'd want to setup for Koji.
  14. He's been worth 2 wins a year already, according to fangraphs. This is the same discussion that was rehashed a hundred times before Iglesias came to the big leagues, and I doubt we'll ever get agreement.
  15. Believe it or not, this place has actually been surprisingly civil. Some bickering here and there, but considering we're watching a terrible team, things have been mostly calm.
  16. Lavarnway dominated AA and AAA before being promoted to the majors. Now, he's barely breaking a .700 OPS at those levels. He's yet another quality prospect who went awry in this farm system. If I was ownership, I would be firing many of the coaches down there -- they either failed the prospects, or failed to tell ownership when to sell high.
  17. I've been seeing stats for 2013. http://obstructedview.net/commentary-and-analysis/rusney-castillo-stats-scouting-report-and-video.html
  18. If I was Jon Lester, I would be pissed. A playoff proven ace with World Series experience, and a birth certificate with his real age was offered 70 million. An unproven Cuban player getting 72 million and 7 years at age "27".
  19. You keep saying this, but it is not true.
  20. Seems like a bust waiting to happen. Why cheap out on Puig, Cespedes, and Abreu, and go for the lessor player at a similar price?
  21. Most of these guys are playing for their jobs next year. Every single starter is auditioning for the 2015 rotation. WMB, Xander, Bradley, Vazquez and Betts aren't guaranteed spots here next year. Cespedes and Koji are playing for their next contracts. Ross too probably. Besides Ortiz, Pedroia and Tazawa, who has nothing to play for?
  22. Buchholz seems like a good waiver wire candidate. Maybe? Where else are you going to find pitching in August? What do you mean your single A pitchers are better than Buchholz?
  23. I agree with SFF on this one. Lester and Hamels will be on the Red Sox roster next year. The next three are taking auditions right now. Workman, RDLR, Webster, Ranaudo, Buch and Kelly are pitching for their jobs right now.
  24. Meanwhile, Brock Holt's 15 game hitting streak continues with 2 hits.
