  1. Theo was talking at NESN today. He was saying that the team probably isn't going to make a big move because just about everyone is going to be healthy by the trade deadline, so it doesn't make a ton of sense for them to get impact players that will be on the bench by the end of the month. Instead, they'll just be going for depth. The bullpen needs help, but that's about it.
  2. In this market, Beltre just hasnt shown the consistency of a guy who is getting a 5 year contract. Only one position player got a contract longer than 4 years after the 2009 season, and Beltre is no Holliday.
  3. Beltre is good and all, but remember who his agent is. Beltre will be 32 and expensive next year. If Youk was playing 3rd right now, he'd be the best offensive 3rd basemen in the MLB, opening up 1B for an offensive powerhouse.
  4. How many times do I have to say it? Stats like base runners and walk percentages are worthless with a guy like Dice-k. Argue what you will about WHIP with any other player but Dice-k is an exception to the rule. I believe its skill, but some believe its his luck. Either way, he consistently gets out of situations with runners on. The stats that matters for him are runs(not ER) and IP. 2 runs is great. 5 innings is lacking, but he did just get off the DL afterall.
  5. He's pitched 15 games so far. He's gone 6 or more innings in all but two of his starts. And he's only allowed more than 4 ER four times all season. Not everyone is going to have an ERA in the 2's in the AL East.
  6. Ortiz, Youk, Beltre, Drew, Scutaro and Cameron still make a solid roster. If Varitek and Nava continue to have good seasons, it won't matter that much. In the end, if the starters do what they're supposed to and Buchholz only misses one or two starts, they can survive a rough patch.
  7. Shields has been inconsistent lately. He won Tampa a game in a 1IP relief appearance last week, but besides that he has lost his last six starts.
  8. Its not a matter of a weak bench, more about having so many injuries that their fourth string guys play significant time. how could they have known that Lowrie would be hurt for 2 full years, and Ellsbury would be sipping fruity drinks in Cancun?
  9. Big argument between Longoria and Upton. It could mean the beginning of the end for the Rays.
  10. Until there are structural issues with the park, its going to stay open. Until we get out of a recession, the park is going to stay open. Until fans actually want a new stadium(ie, stop selling out every game), Fenway is going to stay open.
  11. Oh, that's easy. Lackey-- he's been hiding a shoulder injury all season.
  12. Beltre wanted to make sure this one didn't get away.
  13. Complete game? He probably won't pitch again till Saturday, maybe even Sunday, so they might see what he's got left.
  14. Well, the team knew two or three seasons ago that they were going to need a catcher to replace Varitek. Vmart has been a very good offensive solution, but the amount of time this team has gone without actually acquiring/developing a young catcher is worrisome.
  15. Both Brown and Wagner are on the DL I think. The Sox have needed a solid young catcher for a while, but they seem to be ignoring that problem.
  16. Nancy looked pretty healthy on that triple.
  17. This game has been very enjoyable so far.
  18. Lester with a huge sacrifice fly for the rbi!
  19. The game may be tied, but Lincecum's pitch count is getting up there pretty quickly.
  20. So, Ortiz has trouble hitting good pitching huh?
  21. Drew is back in the lineup and Cameron is out after a great day yesterday? Both are surprises to me. It looks like its going to be a close game, and even with Mcdonald hitting an elite righty, and Hall in, I'm predicting it a close game with a slight edge to the Red Sox offense.
  22. I don't know if anyone has looked at the upcoming schedule, but there is a lot of wiggle room for a hurt Buchholz right now. If they give their starters regular regular rest, they won't need a spot pitcher for 10 days. With only one spot start, he can get 23 full days of recovery because of the all-star break.
  23. You can tell Papelbon is serious when he throws a 1-2-3 for once.
