  1. There's a simple solution here. Give him a one year contract with vesting extensions. If the extensions have reasonable requirements, his ego will push him to sign the contract because he believes he can make them, but if he falls apart the team can get rid of him. If he doesn't want that, let the rest of the market remind him how much money aging sluggers with no defensive position and consistency concerns will make.
  2. 0% chance. Its not going to happen in a billion years. That team would be better off with a guy like Scalabrine in the starting rotation than AI. There are too many personalities, and he would tear the already fragile alliance apart.
  3. Its hard to argue with a .950 OPS. Two years with an option for a third seems pretty reasonable to me, especially since he's been healthy, but they could be regretting that kind of deal by next May, so who knows.
  4. I honestly think that at this point, he's far more valuable on the Sox than as a trade chip. The only expectation of him right now is to decline, but if he's going to be as consistent as they want trading teams to believe he is, why not keep him around?
  5. Also, Ortiz says he wants a multi-year extension next year. I didn't realize it before, but he has an OPS of .945, which is actually better than his career average.
  6. The problem with Hanley is that he's a hall of fame potential player... on the Marlins. I get the feeling if he was surrounded by guys like Pedroia, Youk, Lester etc, he wouldn't feel like such a diva.
  7. Call it a hunch, but I think Ubaldo gets lit up early.
  8. I bet if this team finds someone to protect him this season, he could break 20 easy.
  9. DAVID ORTIZ WINS THE DERBY!!!!!!!
  10. In the middle of Hanley's derby finals, Ortiz comes out, wipes the sweat off Hanley's head, and gives him a hug. Haha, that's just great to watch.
  11. I see Ortiz making it very difficult for the youngster.
  12. Wow, that's a shame. But a Hanley/Ortiz final is very exciting too.
  13. Papi's such a good sport -- what a guy
  14. And the starting All-star broadcaster lady is.... Erin Andrews. This game really is a popularity contest haha.
  15. Haha, do derby home runs count in this league?
  16. Ortiz had an incredibly start to round 2, but he's clearly tiring out.
  17. They've called him Jose Ortiz atleast twice haha
  18. He makes the second round!
  19. Come on Ortiz... just two more.
  20. Anyone watching? Corey Hart was hammering them! (If you don't enjoy it, I just ask that you don't try to ruin it for those of us who do)
  21. "As long as the doctors say that my bone's not going to break off," said Pedroia, he'll start weight-bearing activities after Friday's CT. "That's what the fear was the last three weeks, why I couldn't walk. Where I broke my bone, if a bone breaks off they have to put a pin in it and then I'd miss the rest of the season. So my biggest thing is if I'm fine, if that bone's strong enough to not break off, I'm going to play."
  22. I was just about to post that-- it sounds good, but I get the feeling they'll pull the reins on him.
  23. Its just BS that both Morneau and Beltre are hurt, and Youk is STILL left out of the game.
  24. I'm skeptical too, but saying he'll break down 8 years from now isn't really helpful.
