  1. He's a cheap backup middle infielder. As long as it doesn't break his legs before Pedroia gets back, he's the best they've got for 2B.
  2. One source says Nova, another says Joba. Together, they would probably get him, but I'd be concerned if he's going to be worth 12 million a year till 2012 if he pitches like he has so far.
  3. Hughes has a bright future, and I really don't think Dan Haren is an upgrade from him at all.
  4. I completely agree that Nava is the best chance for this team to win now. But maybe the reason why they sent him down is to help the team later. Nava didn't get much time to develop in AAA, and he has been declining since the ASB, so giving him a chance to develop will only be better for him. It also preserves his trade value, to defend him from a slump between now and the tread deadline
  5. I went to sleep assuming they lost when Papelbon blew the save. I'm actually very glad I didn't suffer through it.
  6. And maybe they've secretly been pumping Mike Lowell with steroids, and is ready to hit 30 home runs this season. Trading Beltre for Werth seems like too much imagination at this point.
  7. Brett Myers
  8. Lackey took a no-hit bid to the 8th tonite. Discuss.
  9. That'll do horse-face, that'll do.
  10. The Nationals are still tied up with Dunn, I thought?
  11. So-- The Sox get a good hitter that will be a free agent at year's end... by sacrificing a good hitter that will be a free agent at year's end? How does that help anyone?
  12. Hermida has been very very good with RISP. But it doesn't change the fact that he's hitting just a hair above the Mendoza line.
  13. Jacoby isn't going anywhere. His value is very low right now because of the injury, and he's the kind of player that you generally don't trade-- but if you do trade him, you do it when his value is very high. The Phillies want to get the most they can for Werth, and trade him out for someone like Roy Oswalt, because after Halladay and maybe Hamels, they don't have anyone to rely on in their rotation. So, I honestly think Werth is a good target because the Phillies are desperate enough, while there really is no good reason to trade a guy like Dejesus.
  14. I don't know which game you're watching but he pitched another inning and a third last night without allowing a run.
  15. I looked at the stat line, and it said Ramon gave up a hit and two walks. Double play? Or maybe he didn't pitch the perfect first inning I thought he did. It really doesn't change a whole lot, Bowden gave up one single hit, and he's being crucified for it.
  16. What was the point in pinch hitting Patterson?
  17. Lowrie gets a hit, and an rbi. If the Sox win this game, its because of him.
  18. Lowrie is playing like Beltre-- he's trying to make big plays, but they all end up off.
  19. Beautiful play by Brown
  20. He also didn't come in 4th for Cy Young either. Mono may very well be equally irresponsible because of the sheer quality of women that baseball players tend to attract.
  21. The problem is that Lowrie has been around for 2-2.5 years, and he's only been productive for half a season.
  22. And Lowrie hustles down to 2nd beating the play, which eventually earns him a run. I'm officially back to being impressed with him after the last 20 months.
  23. And Lowrie gets on base. I'd like to see what he can do when he's healthy... he was a .280 hitter for the sox in his first season before his wrist injury.
  24. Finally we can get rid of Patterson. He had one good game here, but Lowrie is a significant improvement. I'd also love to see Buch get back into the Cy Young race.
