  1. Spudboy, do you remember where that article is ? I read it last week, but would like to dig it up and can't find it.
  2. Whenever Dice-k gets into a good pitching streak like he has been lately, people usually expect a meltdown is coming. And since he thoroughly enjoys defying all expectations at all times, and is completely surprising, he may actually end up pitching well tonite. But since I'm expecting him to do well... its circular logic. I have no clue.
  3. Wait... so if no one ever makes a game thread, the no-GT mojo will give Sox pitching a no-no every night? No mojo is good mojo?
  4. No worries, but its pretty clear that I'm bad luck. I've made four GT's, two of which Lester starts, and they lost three of them. I only made tonite's because it was halfway through the game and no one made one yet.
  5. I like this quote a lot. Its pretty much their slogan for this whole season. I'd sig it it I didn't prefer my Paul Simon. They're four games out of the wc. One series sweep of the Rays by any team(not even the Sox) will get them back in immediately. And the thing about adjustment periods/slumps is that there is no way in hell VMart hits any worse than Cash/Molina, Pedroia over Patterson, Ellsbury over McDonald, Buchholz over Wake. The only returning player that you can look at and seriously believe they will play worse than their replacement is Beckett, but his start looked promising. MDC will likely be swapped with Bowden soon enough for him to figure out his pitching again. The lineup last night trotted out Cash/Lowrie/Patterson/McDonald-- those are not guys that are difficult to improve over.
  6. That being said, Tito has had to deal with so much garbage this year. 3 of their 4 outfielders, 3 of their 5 starting pitchers, their organization's top 4 catchers, the team's emotional leader, and the team's captain have all been on the DL. Throw in 4 veterans with significantly reduced playing time who bitch and whine every chance they get, and one of the worst bullpens in the league. The sole fact that this team is still in contention probably has to do a little bit with how he's managing the team.
  7. I heard reports that Montero was only being moved for Cliff Lee, and besides that, they weren't interested in trading him for any of the other available pitchers.Cliff Lee is as close to a sure thing as possible, he's at the front of a Cy Young race. Dan Haren is not.
  8. What I'm concerned about is a lineup that consists of Patterson/Lowrie/Hermida/Cash. I have serious problems believing that that is the best group they can put together. Seriously, between the four of them they average under .200.
  9. A few things 1) Until the trade deadline passes, its going to be hard to say, because both of these teams are heavy in trade rumors. If the Sox can get help in the bullpen, or if the Rays can get a big bat, filling those holes helps the team out to a huge extent. 2)Buchholz has ALREADY reached his highest season IP, so he's just as likely to fall apart as Price. 3)Bogar has been making horrible mistakes all season. As much as I want him gone, I doubt they'll do what's best for the team.
  10. Well, I'm just going to say what I always say when the Sox have a no-hitter broken up. Its better for the team if their starting pitcher doesn't throw no-hitters because of the stress on the player's arm. Also, it gives me hope that Patterson will be DFAed soon.
  11. f*** Patterson.
  12. f*** Patterson.
  13. Halfway through the game and no game thread. Kind of strange. Lester is looking incredibly good *ahem*. No one's here mojo.
  14. Patterson is better than Angel Sanchez, but continuing to play him with Lowrie on hand makes no sense.
  15. No offense intended. "Best Sox SS" could imply things about his offense--which I don't think you meant-- which is why its misleading.
  16. Lackey and Beckett give up a total of two runs in two games. This will only mean good things for the team, especially with Ellsbury/VMart/Pedroia all coming back within two weeks or so.
  17. Well, saying that he's " the best SS since the 1960s" is a bit misleading.
  18. Take a step back there. So you're saying having one guy from the Yankees throwing rumors out there about trades isn't harassing their kids? If they cared about the players emotions, these details wouldn't be out there until the deals were done. And you're saying because these two teams didn't want Yankee prospects, it means that the Yankee system has more value? I agree that the Yankees have a pretty solid farm system going, but this reasoning doesn't make a ton of sense.
  19. Why do I get the feeling that there is a guy working for the Yankees that is desperate enough for attention that he likes to tell people that these deals are going through when they're not close?
  20. An extremely respectable start for Beckett. 5.2 innings with 1 run is about as close to QS as you can get. And Bill Hall hits his 10th!
  21. Its a bad sign when the other team is fighting in their own clubhouse, and still is doing pretty well against you.
  22. Dejesus is out for 10 weeks. Clearly not anyone's wish lists anymore.
