  1. The Japanese didn't have nukes to send back. The Sox have Buch and Lester. In a war of attrition, overspending on one aspect of the military and getting destroyed in another will change the outcome.
  2. Toronto's offense from 2010 is unsustainable. They have a shot at 3rd in the division, but beating the Red Sox, the Rays, and the next best WC team in the league is incredibly unlikely.
  3. Welcome to Talksox. But no, no one here will seriously believe Buck or Olivo will come close to replacing VMart. They're stopgaps until another elite catcher comes around or one of the prospects turns out. The concern is that other teams will overpay because of how hard it is to find elite catchers, so it might be in the sox best interest to put the money towards other pieces.
  4. Anyone know anything about Mazzaro or Marks?
  5. Err, what? .40 difference in OBP is sort of a big deal-- that's the difference between Olivo and VMart. The strikeout numbers also mean less sac flies for Dunn.
  6. They're signing Cliff Lee. It's happening. Move on. Lester/Buch are just as good, and years younger.
  7. Believe it or not, the Yankees do have a spending limit, even if its monstrous. Better they spend their money in one place than in several.
  8. I think if Ortiz plays 1B he's much less likely to get into his ugly long batting slumps.
  9. I want him in left field
  10. Wouldn't it be nice to see the Yankees spend 60 mill on Jeter/Rivera/Lee combined.
  11. I've been hearing 5 as well, but I'm personally skeptical. 400 OBP is what it is.
  12. Yeah, but that doesn't take away from the fact he was this team's best hitter for two championship runs, STILL has a .400 OBP, and will probably only cost 1/10. Get him a good PR Agent, and you've instantly got a franchise player that keeps the place sold out until A-gon comes next year.
  13. Dear Manny Ramirez. I forgive you. Please come home. -Sincerely, Palodios
  14. Even Jacko thinks Jeter's defense is not GG caliber... wow. You know what? This award is a good thing. It means he'll cost the Yankees even more when they resign him for an incredibly player-friendly deal this month.
  15. Boras does like doing that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turns off more mid-level teams. Bay and Holliday weren't exactly hurting last year.
  16. I seriously doubt Crawford/Werth will have any trouble getting their deals. There aren't many teams that couldn't use an elite OF and you never know when low budget teams feel like picking up a franchise player. And come on, this is Boston, if they send Werth's agent a christmas card it will go to the papers.
  17. Kalish doesn't have walks and his power needs work, but considering defense, speed, health and how well he performed despite the little time he got in AAA, one could argue that he will be just as valuable as Drew in 2012. But then again if Craw/Werth get signed, he might only need to be better than Cameron, big challenge there.
  18. What do you mean, they're not clearing roster spots? The place where their best prospects are (outfield/SS) will lose Cameron/Drew/Scutaro at the end of this year. Sure I think Westmoreland was more relevant to the Cameron deal, but the OF is still relatively unblocked.
  19. Wasn't that the whole point of getting him and declining the option?
  20. Between Beltre, VMart, and Felipe Lopez(Don't forget him now), the Sox get 5 early picks right there. So, they'll still be restocking the farm in case they want other type A free agents. Crawford/Werth, Konerko and a reliever would be worth their first three picks if they already have five more. Its also worthwhile to note that Adam Dunn is only a Type B free agent. And maybe this list is really really wrong, but apparently Mike Lowell has type B status.
  21. A question mark is far better than what we got from the bullpen/Lackey/Beckett/the entire outfield all of last season. Last season was a complete "Worst-case-scenario" situation. What, do you think 25 guys will be on the DL this season instead of 19? With a new pitching coach, a revamped bullpen, and the money coming off the Lugo/Lowell deals, they should do very well. Then you probably didn't watch him nearly enough. His stats were exactly as advertised when they signed him, with the one exception being that the man is a beast that will play through anything when his team needs him.
  22. Considering that Toronto is losing three quality relievers to FA, I doubt their bullpen will be any good next year. Tampa's is also taking a pretty big hit.
  23. Last year, he served as a #3 reliever. This season, I have no problem seeing him in either the 5th, 6th or 7th slot, and that's exactly around what they want him for.
