  1. You don't trade two elite players for anybody. EVER. Ellsbury's last healthy season had an OPS of .770, and with the steals actually he works out to be just as good an offensive player, if not better. For them to ask for him AND a guy who has the making of an elite closer like Bard is completely and utterly unreasonable.
  2. I'm hearing...Ellsbury, Dice-k, Bard.... Buchholz, Kalish, Bowden... What the f*** are the DBacks thinking? He's a .800 hitting outfielder guaranteed 50 million, with a 60% steal percentage last year. Theo: Click. Theo: That didn't quite do it. Theo: SLAM SLAM SLAM SLAM. Hmm, better. Granderson was incredibly similar to Upton in value, and contract cost. If I recall, he took Ian Kennedy, Austin Jackson and Phil Coke. The equivalent of Doubront+Kalish+Bowden. Adding elite players like Buchholz, Bard or Ellsbury is just plain insane.
  3. Sounds like the Upton deal fell through. Comcast Sports Net reports that they wanted an outfielder, and two pitchers, all mlb ready.
  4. It was a joke. Do you really want an accountant sitting at home plate? And Jim-- no way in hell theo trades the team's top four prospects for a player they could replace with Crawford for 35 million more in total. You won't see more than one of those names in a deal if the Sox want to trade because after Upton's season, the Dbacks are hesistant to pay for him, and the Sox hate overpaying in talent.
  5. Arod-27, Sabathia-23, Tex-22, Jeter-19 Howard got 25 a year from the Phillies Mauer got 23 a year from the Twins Santana got 22 a year from the Mets Manny got 20 a year from the Sox From the look of it, the 20-25 mark is very difficult to break as it is. I see Pujols getting the courtesy of getting a contract bigger than Tex's, but I don't think the Cardinals/Sox/Mets/Whoever would be willing to shell out A-rod money.
  6. Incorrect. Ichiro was the best the country has to offer-- and this new SS is the best hitter since Ichiro. I'd put a few million down, but definitely not 50. And as far as Salty... I would have absolutely no problem with getting a good defensive catcher who can't hit. But a poor defensive catcher who can't hit? That will be a serious serious problem. Isn't there a 4th Molina brother who is doing tax revenue evaluations in the middle of nowhere somewhere? Let's see what he's up to before we go with Salty.
  7. He said he'd be comfortable. Not that he'll be tolerable, or a worst case scenario. Clearly VMart knows that he has everything on Salty... and unfortunately that even includes defense. I'm just worried this is a PR move for when VMart goes to the Rangers.
  8. I'm far more apt to blame bad bullpens on the last four years of Farrell as pitching coach, because its not like the talent hasn't been there.
  9. Considering he's a 33 year old reliever with a career ERA of 4.47, I think a 3 year deal is a little insane.
  10. Its funny, but we all seem to be forgetting that Bard had not logged all that many major league innings, and he too was a wild card. 100 mph or not, rookies always carry risks.
  11. In all fairness, this is the pirates you're talking about. They would non-tender a clone of Mo haha.
  12. a700, the simple fact is if you went into the season with a bullpen of Rivera, Soria, Broxton, Papelbon, Feliz, and they all died in a plane crash, you'd come here and vent when the FO called the season a lost cause. I'm starting to accept that realization that you simply want this team to be the best it possibly can, but others have not. Yes, the FO could have done more, but no one knows if they should have.
  13. We're better off with Scutaro and Lowrie. Bulging discs tend not to go away, and Lowrie is still a big injury risk. Scutaro won't get enough on the market to warrant trading him, plus he's about as big a gamer as you'd find, and the Sox love that. Apparently this Japanese SS is the best hitter since Ichiro. Sounds interesting.
  14. I'm surprised about Thames-- why go Japan when you have an outside shot of starting somewhere?
  15. You have met Jacko, right? This definitely improves Vmart's stock, possibly guaranteeing him the 4th year that the Red Sox are skeptical to give him-- but it doesn't necessarily guarantee him a 5th.
  16. I just don't see any advantage in signing Upton over Crawford. Likely the same number of years, worse hitting, far fewer steals, worse defense, less security plus a boatload of cheap quality players... Is all that worth the 35 million difference?
  17. Three years on Buck... That means that VMart aint coming back to Boston.
  18. Considering that he's only hitting .800 and signed at 5/50, I'm sure the Dbacks will be more than willing to consider trading him.
  19. You have unreasonable expectations, that's the problem. This was a worst case scenario kind of year, and believing that trading prospects for a pitcher with a 6.0 ERA is going to solve your problems is completely unrealisitic. There is a point where nothing can be done to salvage a year, and they hit that point.
  20. Get over Kerry Wood. His ERA was in the 6.0 range when the yanks got him, they got lucky.
  21. The bullpen this year was a situation of bad luck. Of the six guys we expected to be in the bullpen, only one pitched up to anywhere near expectations. Wake,Pap,RR,MDC,Ok, all failed miserably this year. As theo kept saying, there were only 5 or 6 relievers traded this year, and two of them were Red Sox.
  22. In an ideal beautiful world, unicorns do exist. You're right, it does work the same way.
