  1. The biggest fear I see with snagging Agon is that if the Padres aren't in it this year, they're bound to try to trade him. And considering that he will do some serious damage to that team's farm system, whoever gets him will lock him up.
  2. Dunn would be a beautiful candidate to hold 1B for Agon and then replace Ortiz as DH in 2012. The question is, will they pull the trigger before the Yanks do?
  3. After VMart, Buck and Olivo are the best available catchers. So they either get extra draft picks or some solid trade value. Smart move I think.
  4. How is 30% aribtrary? Vlad got rejected on a 9 million, and Ortiz was picked up on 12.5 million. Its closer to 35 sure, but Vlad isn't worth that much less.
  5. Vlad has not had worse consistency problems than Ortiz-- They've had fairly similar declines. And to clarify-- even though they're both pretty terrible defensively, there are just so many big 1B bats, and its a helluva lot easier to shuffle out an outfielder than it is to shuffle around a 1B because most of the time the 1B is going to be your #3 or 4 hitter. Consider how many games Hermida played in LF. Ortiz is not worth 30% more than Vlad.
  6. I just don't think there is any real difference in value from Vlad to Ortiz. 40 OPS may seem like a lot, but when you consider that Vlad hits for .30 points better for average these days, and is slightly better defensively for NL games(not a huge factor, but I'd rather have a DH replace an outfielder than a 1B that probably hits just as well). But they excercised an above value option, so I can't argue anymore.
  7. Not really tested? They beat the Giants earlier in the 2007 season.
  8. The only way I see the Sox/Vmart deal working is if they give out a well structured frontloaded deal with vesting options.
  9. Right, but who drafts the team? Who turns the talent into skill? Who makes good players better? This season he's turned a pile of rookies and no-namers into the team with the best record in football.
  10. I would trade Papelbon for the grandmothers of those respective prospects at this point. Greinke is in a very different league than Papelbon right now.
  11. I think the point has been a bit exaggerated, but there is definitely truth in the fact that when trading an ace quality pitchers, the Royals will want a better pool of prospects because of the fact that their best prospects right now aren't the best fit for the royals system. I'm still firm under the belief that Theo is not selling the farm. Besides Bard, there has not been a single prospect who has made a significant impact on this team over the last two seasons, simply because there has been a gap in the development of players, and in 2010 we sort of saw what might be coming up through this organization soon, and if they're that desperate for an ace they should get Lee-- because even outbidding the Yankees would potentially cost less than the money they'd have to pay to sign free agents to replace a pile of top prospects.
  12. Or maybe Suns was right all along... Cleveland is better off without Lebron. Watch them win the finals this year hahahaha.
  13. BSN, you ignored my point. What is the worst case scenario in a Greinke trade? That's what this team needs to look at for pitching right now.
  14. Err, sorry, that was not intended to be snippy whatsoever, but now that I look at it, it definitely seems that way. my bad.
  15. You didn't post the article from Cliff Lee saying that fans will be fans, and its just an unfortunate part of the game. It also didn't mention that Lee and Sabathia's wives/families have been close for a few years. I think what happens in the World Series is going to be a bigger factor to Lee than this.
  16. Quite frankly, this team needs to look at the worst case scenario when signing starters for the next four years. There are far too many question marks making large sums of money on this team already. After what happened to Cliff Lee's wife the other night, it makes me realize there is a very good chance Greinke could be a huge bust in the AL East.
  17. I have no tv until Saturday, and its killing me tonite. Anyone feel like giving me a solid overview of how this game has looked?
  18. Its painful how biased this article is. Giving credit to Farrell for Dice-k's success? Come on now, this is clearly one of those respectful fairwell articles. Curt Young would be a dream for this team-- .50 lower ERA without JF, believe it.
  19. Perhaps you should have been watching him here instead. Find one of my other posts, or even just look at the talent he's compromised the last three years and maybe you'll see the truth.
  20. Haven't you heard the old Yankee slogan? A year without a championship is a failure. They will spend most of the 70.
  21. They have 70 million coming off the books. I find it very hard to see them standing pat.
